I have been told Diltiazem ER is the same drug but the drug manufacturr is lying. I have used both. 1), You take Diltia ER like Fosamax either one hour before eating or 2 hours after 7 you can't take any of your other drugs and must stay awake standing up ahve and empty stoamach while on CARTIA NONE OF THIS MATTERS, 2), NEVER TAKE DILITA -ER WITH COUAMDIN , IT'S OK TO CARTIA - IF NECESSARY - BUT I REPEAT NEVER TAKE DILATIA WITH COUMADIN - YOU WILL REGRET IT,3) I had bad reaction with Dialtai -ER - I couldnt stand up, walk, was nauseated, and troubled breathing And I had none of these reactions with Cartia ER. Does this sound like the same drug to you and before you aak - yes they were the same dosage.

Absolute truth. Not only any generic Diltiazem causes problems described above, but it shoots my sugar from 170 to 350 and it is ABLOLUTELY true. I had some Cartia XT left , but switched to Diltiazem ER that my insurance company switched to and felt like I was dying for a whole week. All my muscles and bones hurt. I am diabetic(type2) and I also went through 2 cancer which makes me VERY worried with Cartia XT being no more. It was a very mellow working medication and I had no reaction to it whatsoever.I am in a dead end street , since Cartia XT cannot be found and all mail outlet , as well as Canadian pharmacies charge prices that I could never even deream of paying.WHY WE ALWAYS kill what's good.Is money and profit EVERYTHING? DOESN'T LIFE COUNT ANYMORE.I do not wish those who made a decision to ever need Cartia XT , but they would understnd REALLY FAST.

The above comments are absolutely true. I have been trying to save money on my Cartia XT 300 mg for months. I even talked my doctor into a lower dose of diltiazem ER so it would be on Walgreens "cheap list". It did not work. They have even substituted Taztia XT last month and it made my legs swell. I finally found a CVS today that still has some of the Cartia XT 300 mg but I will have to pay $118 for a months worth! They said their lower doses (240 mg and 180 mg) have been changed to the diltiazem because its cheaper! Why are they messing with our medications??? We know what works and my doctor wrote me the RX so what's up with the drug companies and pharmacies? It's all about the money! It really makes you mad and I hate to make my blood pressure go up worrying about it!

My friend is also having problems with the DILT-CD 300mg they replaced the Cartia XT 300mg with. I see that these posts talk about the problems, but I don't see any solutions. He also feels like he is dying on the DILT. Any recommendations? Please email [email protected] THANK YOU!

Just wanted to let anyone know that was interested that I have just spoken with Watson Pharmaceuticals, the people that make Cartia XT, and they have informed me that production on it has been suspended at this time. They gave no reason but did tell me that at some point they may resume production of it (they of course have no date). I informed them of alot of people online besides me that were used to the Cartia XT and having problems with the other generics the pharmacies are pushing on us. They were specifically interested in my reaction to Taztia XT that was substituted by Walgreens that made my legs swell really bad. So I'm waiting on a call back from the medical team on that. Meanwhile I got the last of the Cartia XT from the CVS I go to and paid $2.00 a pill and they only have like 24 left and they too said they're not getting anymore at this time. By the way the Watson people told me the only drug comparable to Cartia XT is Cardizem CD which is made by another drug company. If anyone wants to know more feel free to email me at [email protected]
Thanks!

Greettings. I'm just on here researching for my mom who was switched from Cartia XT to Dilt-CD. Let me tell you my mom is one fiesty, independent woman. I have in all my years never heard my mother complain, but this has gotten the best of her. She keeps telling me "I can't coordinate, I can't explain to you it's my muscles. It's like I have sea legs and can't make it". This from a woman who has walked to and from the sotre her entire life. Just the other evening she tried to make it to our local market a block away. After and hour I went looking for her and found her "STUCK" on the street holding on to a cart almost in tears. These Pharmaceutical companies in my opinion are worse than the drug dealers on the corners. Thank you all for information and I will be checking back. Thanks especially to Trisha J.

I have a similar situation as others. My mother has Atrial Fibrilation and was taking Cartia XT and was switched to Diltiazem by the pharmacy. She lost her taste buds, becomes dizzy has fallen and broken her shoulder. The pharmacy suggests Verapamil, but after reading information on this drug, it sounds risky.I have purchased all the Cartia XT that was available in my area. The doctor could not recommend an alternative other than Diltiazem and suggested asking the pharmacist.

I would like to know whats going on.I called my CVS pharmacy for a refill of Cartia Xt and when I pick it up I was given Diltiazem in its sted.I asked the pharmacist why and he stated the Cartia XT had been recalled, and that Diltiazem was the same thing, but now I read that Diltiazem can be dangerous.I going to call CVS's home office to see what why the switch.

I too am having the same problem. The Diltiazem just doesn't work for me. I get pinching pains in my heart when I'm on any of that formula. Hope the Cartia is back, will call CVS in am. to see if they can get it again. They all tell you its the same stuff but its not. Glad to see I'm not the only one with this problem and and it's not all in my head. I hate how they just switch a drug on you and don't even tell you.

CARTIA IS BACK! I have received an e-mail from Watson (ANDRX) about Cartia that it is manufactured again. After 4 pills I am a new man and my blood pressure is excellent.Sugar has dropped in half and I am no longer groggy and feeling sick.Cancel all those generic Diltazems. They are deadly! Enjoy Cartia XT and feel better.

In January I had a cardioversion. I was prescribed Diltiazem, warfarin, amioderone, bystolic,f urosimide
omeprazole and metolazone, I trusted what I was given
but I kept reading about the side effects of amioderone. In July, when I refilled my prescription for amioderone, I was given Cartia by Walgreens. I was upset at first to be at the Mercy of the pharmacy to change my meds at will. In this case, I guess I got the better of the deal. I am so sick of being administered to by the pharmaceutical industry. It scares the pee-waden out of me. We seemingly have no rights. Can anyone tell me I have it all wrong?

I have been on blood pressure medication for a couple of years and had this experience maybe 2 years ago. I patronize CVS/Caremark for Cartia and then was supplied with DiltiazemER. Apparently something was very different, and I finally concluded that it was the manufacturer. I finally switched maufacturer called TEVA CO.for exactly the same drug DiltiazemER. I am feeling fine now with this new manufacturer. The pharmacist would only give you the TEVA brand if your doctor specifically wrote it down on the prescription itself. My doctor even wrote down TEVA for my simvastatin. I am feeling vey fine! PTL!

I just started with Cartia because I get muscle cramps in my heart with very little exertion. This is a test. I've been on the meds for about one week and today I did some light exercise. No tightness. Yippee. I don't have high blood pressure or any other heart symptoms. Anyone out there have the same issue as mine? How are you feeling? Thanks to everyone for their input.

Livvie, I just started Cartia due to chest cramps in my heart. I have been dealing with this pain for almost a year. In the last couple of months, its progressed to a daily health challenge. All cardiac tests in my case are normal. Normal cardiac enzymes, EKG, echo, teradmills, CT of chest. I went to the ER yesterday due to chest pain and they gave me the Cartia. It has helped. I plan on taking it and trying it and see if it helps. I am an active on the go woman and this CP has really been unsettling. They says it could be Cornonary Artery Spasms, Printzmetal's angina or endothelial dysfunction. Cardiac tests will almost always show up normal. How are you feeling? Do you notice a difference with the Cartia?

To Livvie & Reyna,
I have coronary artery vasospasms (& a very similar experiece to what Reyna describes). I'm switching from Cardizem CD to Cartia this week, starting tomorrow. I'm honestly I little scared, but also hopeful that Cartia works at least as well. I had an experience with Diltiazem, it was not as effective as the Cardizem is. But it was only the fact that my doctor prescribed the meds in the first place, and that they worked, that led to a diagnosis. Even then it took going to Cleveland Clinic. But two heart attacks later, I'm still here. Wish me luck on the switch, I'll let you know how it goes.

Thank you Reyna and Laurie: I am feeling better and when I exercise I don't get the heart cramps. Laurie the name you gave the problem: coronary artery vasospasms is what I believe my doctor said he thought I might have. He prescribed the Cartia because he said if the spasms went away, then that is what I have. Good luck to both of you and good heath.

Livvie, that's good to hear, I'm glad he told you what might be the problem. Just be patient, it may take some time, or increasing the dosage if it doesn't seem to be completely working. I take 360 mg per day, & still have symptoms, but am back to at least a semi normal life which is a dramatic improvement. I'll take it! I hope it works at least as well for you!
