I'm not genius but i believe the point was that Broward County was going to TEST the system. Being a logical person I'd assume they would use real medical records or real addicts. I'm thinking they'd use dummy data to make sure it works. Once it's capable of working in one State then it would be implemented accross the country. One more note on this system, anything the gonvernment controls will not work.
The other comment I have is, if you need pain meds there is no reason to have 5000, 512mg oxycondone tabs if you're not an addict and/or not distributing them.

I have to say right now that I believe there are cases of pain where two extra-strength Tylenols will not help at all. However I live with someone who is addicted to pain meds and I have had my eyes opened to just how easily obtainable some of these meds are. Aches and pains do not warrant narcotics, people. Recovering from having your body cut open for surgery does. Learn to draw the line, if not for yourself then for the people who love you and have to deal with the aftermath of your abuse. Narcotics are all available as generics and that translates into cheap highs for people who are addictive. If it was all done on insurance due to the high cost, then it would be partially regulated, but when an entire scrip is $20 or less, they just made it too damned easy for someone to get their fix.

To repeat: if not for yourself, then for the ones who love you and live with your addiction!

I think these laws and databases to catch people obtaining medication, which the government deems unnecessary or excessive, will make it more difficult for people who really need them. There will always be addicts. When will this country learn to deal with them other than throwing them in prison and expecting them to magically be better when they get out. I think it makes more sense for them to go to a doctor than to by drugs off the street.

there are many folks that have serious medical conditions that are in dire need for pain management & are not drug seekers.

do NOT accuse everyone as a drug abuser

I wish you were not right....but you are spot on. A database is a form of a scientific study. Studies like these, if carefully planned, can give valuable information about the extent of drug "shopping" and get help to those who need it.
The planning involved in a database type of study must include careful thought about who might enter the study, how they enter the database and ways that someone might avoid scrutiny in the database if they didn't want to appear on the radar screen, so to speak.
A correct beginning would be to include anyone who visits a physician in Florida. It is my understanding that the Florida Drug Enforcement people have access to all narcotic prescription records. It shouldn't be singularly difficult to have a computer look for patterns of illegal use and illegal prescriptions.

I agree. tell me <<posterior disk bulging is present at C3-4, C4-5, c5-6 and C6-7. Anterior Disk protrusions are present at T2-3 T3-4 and T4-5. Facet Joint disease is present throughout the cervicothoracic spine greater on the right...>>
and this is just the first paragraph...
but one dr is good enough to "manage" the pain when I can't stand up in the morning or sit down after standing for a while. It is unbearable at times, but that's why it is "pain MANAGEMENT" not pain gone. this will effect us that do ligitimately need this to be productive. I cant get disability cuz i have to work, but its hard to work to keep a roof over me and my kids head. its a no-win

Does anyone know the NAME of the bill passed by the FL legislature that addresses "doctor shopping"? Or IS there one?

This is about the need for LAW ENFORCEMENT to track DRUG TRAFFICKERS who are doctor shopping and making $1500+ a DAY selling these drugs on the street to kids, young adults, and their drug addicted elders. In case you haven't noticed, drug trafficking and addiction are the #1 problem in the state.

This is NOT about those in real pain who need medication. They are neither the major issue NOR the major problem.

"the biggest problem in the state?" I think if you asked 100 people "what is the biggest problem in the state?" You might get 5 to say drug dealing and addiction. There are far worse things to be in life than a drug dealer. Some would say abortion Dr., others would say a liar, some would say a republican, some would say a socialist or democrate or whatever you want to call someone who wants to use the government to spread the money around, a child molester, murderer, rapist, adulterer, theif, a negro, a honky, a dead beat dad, a gay, a gay basher, someone who judges others maybe.

Yes there is a law, I forget the name, but I read the actual verbage and it (I'm paraphasing) getting or filling a prescription that is the same or similar from more than 1 dr. in a 30 day period without making the Drs aware of one another

Yeah well with or without a system they are looking, I had two doctors, one who advised surgury. I went for a second oppinion and stupidly accepted the same narcotic medication from the second Dr. I was charged with 9 counts of obtaining a prescription by withholding information. Thats what they call it in the report. They charged me with one felony for every bottle of medication I received. Still waiting to go to court.

This program is not something that we want it is NEEDED. I use to work for a pain management office, and i can tell you that the amount of people doctor shopping is UNREAL.
This program could not only stop this, but save lives as well...
I would say that 6 out of ten people are seeing 2 or more doctors, and as long as you have some kind of medical MRI, or something to say your in medical need of these medications and you have the $$$ to pay the office visit, it is a buffet to drug users and abusers.
People drive from all states to come to South Fla, and go from DR to DR and go back home.
These doctors are NOTHING MORE THEN LEGAL DRUG DEALERS, who are making millions sitting behind a desk and writting scripts all day and collecting money.
the program cost does not compare to the lives of people abusing the pain clinics and the pain clinics feeding the need of abusers..
As long as you have office visit fee every month, and some proof of a injury, you can get into any pain center. there are fake MRI's, people change the reports it is unreal and FLA NEEDS TO TAKE CONTROL.

So are your charges in FL or CA? Did they show up at your house and cuff you and take you in or how did it work?

Watch out people, they are cathing the Dr shoppers down here in South Fl big time, stating with that new fingerprint system setting up at pharmacys everywhere to where if you buy a narcotic you have to put your fingerprint in the system and I hear they are all connected to the DEA. Slowly but surely they are making cases going after the big boys. I have read about a huge bust in a Palm Beach County on a flier at my regular Dr. and talked to him and he told me some things that I cant say what they are doing and trust me, its not worth getting a catching a drug charge. Either get help or stop selling your stuff. Be safe, Its not worth it.

I hate the meds but I am in the same situation, I have to work to support the family. Without my oxycodone which I take as prescribed I would not be able to stand let alone stand in the smae 16 inch square radius cement floor 8 hours a day to feed my wife and kids. People have to understand these medicines save a lot of peoples lives if taken as prescribed cause god knows I would have killed myself a long time ago if I didn't have my meds to make it through each and everyday. The pain for me is that unbearable. I have 2 massive herniations and serious stenosis. I can't afford to take the time off from work to get the surgery. So my point is the meds are life savers if taken the right way.

I am on chronic pain meds and need them and the ones that abuse them makes it very hard for us with the true pain for doctors to trust us. I am tested every month to make sure it is in my system and that I am not selling it on the streets. I think that the DEA lost the war on drugs so they take it out on the patients and doctors,
