Letter: Chico bag ban can protect ocean life
Our oceans are drowning in plastic trash. The United Nations Environmental Programme reports that each square mile of ocean contains over 46,000 pieces of plastic litter, varying in size from tiny flakes to bags to commercial fishing nets.

Legalize Hemp and make bags out of it. They made all of the civil war uniforms out of Hemp. It is strong and will last a long time. Washing after washing, becoming softer with every wash.
Why kill the fish and pollute our oceans?

I wouldn't mind paying a few cents for a plastic bag IF they were biodegradable. If Chico is trying to keep up with the bay area why isn't something mentioned about the stores being required to provide such? Are the ineffectual members of the council uncomfortable with this? It is, after all, part of the bay area plan...are we not as entitled to the same benifits as they?
The bay area problem is bags in the ocean and we are told in Chico the bags are (do you believe this stupidity?) clogging up the waste dump LOL.
What a really stupid thing to say. Bags don't decompose much underground as indeed NOTHING will decompose much in an environment lacking in oxygen, but bags have almost zero volume and mass and you'd never notice a change in volume if there were NONE.
SO before we get in a hissy fit about nothing why don't we try to keep DISPOSABLE DIAPERS out of our landfill???? Kids go through hundreds and hundreds of these on a monthly basis and the're many many times bulkier than plastic bags. Cloth diapers are healthier for kids (despite what the disposable people would like you to think) and for the environment.
But I guess if they ignore it in the bay area then we're supposed to ignore it too, right??? I mean they HAVE to be smarter and more progressive than us, right?

I would like Chico to ban disposable diapers as they are much worse than a grocery plastic bag. I have seen many of these disposable diapers littering the bushes along Butte Creek. I always recycle my beer bottles. Why can't the parents who use disposable diapers do the same and not litter the countryside ?
