I hope this was a joke? Shame on you, Vacaville Reporter. This piece is very insulting and it shouldn't have been printed in your paper in the first place. This is very offensive to anyone who lives on the 87 side of town. Your columnist just told us that our side of town is garbage, and you allowed that to be printed? I have always been proud of this town and everything it has to offer, both north and south sides. I am so disgusted with this paper right now. This is how your paper feels about those of us on the south side? I need to cancel my subscription too. This really crossed the line in my opinion.

Danny,
I think your youth is showing through too clearly. You act as if the south side of town just happened overnight and negatively impacted the north side of town. Your comments are very transparent; you don't like the south side of town, nor Wood High School. You most definately have a preference for creeks to canals, although we on the south side of town have plenty of creeks. I'm a bit dumfounded as to why you would make such inflamatory comments. Could it be that you're getting yourself ready for the Black and Blue Bowl later this week and simply wish to create a bit of controvesy? I've enjoyed previous articles you have written, while not always agreeing with your comments; however, your article about south vs. north Vacaville has clearly shown a lack of history, understand, but a tremendous amount of imaturity. I don't think I'll ready anything you pen in the future. I don't think you have lived enough to know very much about life.
Danny could help you with your spelling, sentence, and paragraph construction. As for his viewpoint on how he feels about liking one side of town more than the other, this is the potent stuff that brings great debates into play. Most of the irate comments show only anger and indignation and offer no compelling defense for why they favor the Southside. Can you do that? Let's hear something from your heart. Danny did that. Can you?

The Reporter published a heady column that sparked a fine debate and if you dig deep within yourself you might see it as an opportunity to see the good that can come from attempting to understand human nature and how we form loving attachments. Look beyond what you find offensive and tell us more about why you are proud of our whole town and everything in it. We would enjoy hearing what you have to say about loving Vacaville as a whole.

What does the south side have to offer? I mean, besides a higher crime rate?

Do you really think you are funny? I read through all 100 and some posts and there are so many cruel people leaving comments. Then I decide to leave my opinion and this is the kind of response I get? Your comments are juvenile and just plain stupid. You are making cracks at your own town and the people that live in it. All I see is narrow-minded people with nothing better to do, making fools out of themselves. We all know how you feel, there is no need for you to keep posting ridiculous comment after ridiculous comment. I'd like to see some real responses to the subject.

It's not about what the south side has to offer, it's what does Vacaville have to offer. The town is great as a whole. I've lived here for almost thirty years and I find myself driving all over town, shopping and eating on both sides. And so many people keep bringing up this who crime rate issue. When there is an incident in town and it's on the news, do the news reporters say there was a burglary in south vacaville today, etc? No, they don't. What is wrong with you guys? Show a little community pride, and show some respect for your neighbors.

So, get busy! Address each comment with your feelings. Yes, it was supposed to be funny, too bad you missed that! I get the feeling you need to get over it, this is what we do here....if you don't like it, leave. I am not a granny, and couldn't be proud of what I see crawling our streets, making the magic disappear on a daily basis for those who remember how sweet this place was. If this really bothers you, why do you keep coming back?

Danny's column was like a shot of adrenalin and I think the South got double shot through. lol The Southside is sort of out there in the flatlands with not much charm. However, the Southeast side has a ghost that haunts around the area of Patwin Park. Two of my friends (who don't know each other,) have seen him and told me about it.

No matter how hard you try, you will never be the "cultured man" that you sound like you want to be,...not with this article and "people below me mentality" that you seem to have. You sound like a transplanted "low lifer" in different suit, looking for someone to look down on JUST TO ELEVATE SELF.

Both stories are very convincing and come with evidence that a ghost manipulated the surroundings of the women's homes. For one family, it is ongoing and has been, for years. It's in the Southeast part of town, near Patwin Park. Maybe those homes were built on an old Indian burial ground? I do not know, but if enough experiences are reported, it would make a worthwhile investigation.

Bernardini said, "My problem is there is no identity on the south side. There's no history. It's mostly retail, apartments and people transplanted from other areas."

OK, so the south side is more of a working class network of neighborhoods and merchants than Mayor Len Augustine's concept of the ideal executive class community.

But our side has the best library in town, along with a pretty good cultural center, the best burger joint in town (Burger City).

You want historical monuments? Take a long around the Vacaville/Elmira Cemetery on Elmira Road and read some of the older grave markers and monuments. Family names such as Beelard, Powers, Wood & Harbison to name a few.

The Alamo Creek Trail provides some good nature viewing including a large venue of Turkey Vultures that flies in from South America for the winter. When the City of Vacaville isn't trapping and killing them, the creek also provides habitat for beaver and muskrat.

In our neighborhood in the Creekside Subdivision, we have some great neighbors who actually speak to one another and actually knows each other's names - a rare commodity in the west these days. Mostly small business owners, teachers, nurses and other health professionals constitute the bulk or our particular street on the south side of I-80

Having lived in some real dumps such as New Jersey and Long Beach during my 21 year career as a Naval Officer, I have come to appreciate our own south side community. I'm sure that the north side has its share of decent neighborhoods also. But here in our little part of the universe, we have just about everything we need or could want.

Danny didn't mean any harm. He's like all of us northerners - we love our side of town. I've never lived on the south side and never will.
There ARE some very nice areas on the south side, but not many.
He's probably talking about Elmira Road and all those ugly apartment complexes scattered around there.
Also, Angry, Danny didn't write an editorial. It's called a column. It's his opinion. He can write pretty much anything he wants.
Welcome home, Danny!
I have lived on both sides of town and believe me the north side is NO BETTER than the south side, so you northside snobs need a reality check and in case you think that I am bitter because I no longer live on the northside you would be wrong. There is nothing special about living here, except we don't get the wind like we used to. It is juvenile to think that living on the northside is some how better than being on the southside of town. Grow up

I don't have to live on both sides of town to know what I prefer. YOU are the one who needs to "grow up" as it's obvious you didn't even read my post before responding.

I think it's all about charm. The Northside has charm that radiates out in all directions. The Southside isn't old enough to be charming, yet.

Hey, Danny Boy, your logic is flawed. You apparently lived in a bad part of the south. You apparently moved to a nice part of the north. You are extrapolating: "one part of the south is bad; one part of the north is good; therefore, all of the south is bad and all of the north is good."
By the way, why did you move to a bad part of the south, if you have spent a lot of time in Vacaville and should know better?
I urge you to walk along the bad parts of Monte Vista late at night. Or, why don't you move into one of the apartments near there that are really bad?
There is a good part of the 87? Danny wrote a woderful article, you people on the south side need to simmer down. It could be worse for you people stuck in the 87, you could be stuck in Fairfield.

Daily Horoscope for January 6

Taurus

Try to keep your energy a little bit more under control. If you scatter in all directions, you'll end up hot and bothered. Mars tends to rev up your engine, but an awkward aspect to Saturn will make everything go in stops and starts. As soon as you try to shift into higher gear you meet immovable objects at the moment, so the solution is to slow down. There are wonderful, uplifting influences hanging around as well as tricky ones, so just hang in there.
