Solano County should make rules, not roadblocks: Patients deser...

Full story: The Reporter

A temporary ban preventing medical marijuana dispensaries from setting up shop on land that falls under Solano County's jurisdiction expired Friday, but not because county staff or the Board of Supervisors have been proactive about the matter.

It's long past time for the board to figure out their regulations, get them into print, and allow dispensaries to set up shop. This moratorium has only served to obfuscate, to delay, in effect to deny Californians the rights that they voted on way back in 1996. That's right, 13 going on 14 years worth of "studying" the issue. Give me a bureaucratic break. Ever heard the phrase "fast track"? Do it. Soon. Put away your substance bigotry, your bias against folks different than you, and comply with the law. That's right, comply with the law.

Funny how so many healthy young people need 'medical marijuana.'

Lets call a spade a spade here. This is a backdoor approach to obtaining a recreational drug.

I would assert that the vast majority of people are not going for medical necessity, they just want to get high.

I would assert that ALL pot smokers have a therapeutic requirement for liberty. So LEGALIZE it.

Keeping cannabis illegal while tobacco and alcohol are dispensed freely is *MURDEROUSLY STUPID*.

Let's make a deal. Oakland can sell marijuana and ban gun shops, we'll sell guns and ban marijuana dispensaries. Deal?

Here's an idea. The U.S. Food and Drug Commission regulates medical pot and the dispensing is restricted to licenced pharmacies as is the case with all other non-OTC drugs.

Wouldn't that discourage the recreational smoker?

Just a thought.

Patient: Oh...my left big toe nail hurts doctor.

Physician: Here's a scrip for medical marijuana.

No it won't stop the pot heads.

Max Vac needs a little medication, it sounds.

Why discourage the recreational smoker. If one is lazy and sits around eating tomatoes all day he goes broke. Then he gets hungry, he goes to work.

No, of course selling weed over a pharmacist counter won't work. There isn't time to set it up. Weed ain't waiting.

Yes the potheads will get it anyway. They always have and always will. But in 10 years ther'll be fewer of them.

Face it, Legal Weed is here and it took so long building huge momentum that even the most conservative tightarse knows it won't be stopped.

Sour Grapes..you'll be OK, Max... just catch yur breath..remember what the doctor said about your hypertension

Here's an idea. Regulate it like tomatoes.

Grow it like tomatoes.

Tax it like tomatoes.

Give it to those in need like tomatoes.

Really nice tomatoes are expensive, like $2.00/pound.

How bout we get over the debate, marijuana won by a wide margin.

Now let's make the most of it and move on.

Heck, I might have to get a script, myself.

Simple answer... go find a County that fits your bill! The majority of medical pot goes to pot heads who were able to secure a doctor's prescription. How about a valid verification process with strict penalties for fraud?

Freely dispensed? I don't think so! Folks break many laws obtaining it and using it! Just as the pot heads will. Another danger to the public. PS It wasn't the majority who voted legalization... it was the majority of those who bothered to vote! Big difference!

Are you confused? Tobacco and alcohol are *freely dispensed*. The problem is that cannabis ISN'T. Capice?

The laws against cannabis are based upon racist fictions and are to be repudiated.

I have a hard time believing that any sensible person out there doesn't agree that the current policies regarding marijuana prohibition have failed miserably.
The reality is that many, many cannabis users are intelligent, productive, taxpaying, law abiding citizens. Many are professionals, executives and entrepreneurs. Unfortunately, the stereotypical "pot-head" is more visable and thus noticed by the public/media.

The prohibition of cannabis is really ridiculous.
The sale of cannabis should not be controlled in a pharmacy because unlike most pharmaceuticals (as well as, alcohol & tabacco) people don't die from using it.
We need to allow dispensaries to exist because the bottom line is, if it's sold on the store self, it won't be sold on the street corners. The drug peddler on the street corner isn't going to ask for I.D. or pay taxes!! And to make matters worse, we're paying billions of dollars every year to enforce, prosecute and incarcerate illicit marijuana sales.
It's not hard to pull together statistics to support a belief that marijuana sales contribute to overall crime. Under today's model, marijuana sales will continue to attract other forms of crime.(do we have to remind ourselves of the Al Capone era and Alcohol prohibition??)
Cannabis has been used by human beings for therapeutic uses for thousands of years.

Legalize, tax & reaglate it!!

What are YOU smoking? I've been to see the so-called "license mills" and have been turned away. Why? Because I didn't have a qualifying medical history. My depression issues, and chronic neck pain WERENT ENOUGH to get a card from a guy who issues 300 of them a day.

Could it be that you have just made up your mind already? It's okay, lots of other undoubtedly better people do it everyday. Don't let facts get in your way though.

As my embarassingly conservative uncle would say, "You don't have to vote, if you do - realize that sometimes you lose. If you don't - QUIT WHINING ABOUT THE RESULT."

As I said, he's embarassingly conservative, yet even this dinosaur is willing to live with his eyes open.
