Some people do shoot animals with arrows to feel macho. I would never deny that.

But again, do you eat meat?
If you do, and if you love animals, how can you accept the fact that someone will keep an animal in captivity all its life, then take it away to slaughter it, send it to the butcher, then you go to the store and buy it so you can have dinner?

What makes an arrow worse than a bullet?

I love animals too, especially with potatoes, gravy and various other vegetables.

It’s as if we can finish each other’s sentences long before it’s said, I don’t feel macho either when I kill an animal!!!

I don’t have any assault weapons, but I’m not giving my guns up either.

I am surrounded by "assault weapons" ... all the time.
The problem is that they are all shape shifters and it is hard to tell that they are such weapons sometimes.
For example, there's a full Sobe bottle to my left right now. At any time it could shape shift and become an "assault weapon". It has a real cool hand grip on it at the top too. It's a factory grip though, not any of those fancy aftermarket grips. Maybe I could trick it out with some cool target stickers or something and make it look more macho.

Glad you asked!
A few months ago, we got another English Setter,"Blake".
Spitting image of Jake, who died of heart worms.
Same pain in the ass too, but as you put it, in a good way.
Hope your critters are doing well. So very odd how much they remind you of children, isn't it?
Yep, they definitely have their own little personalities. Glad to hear Blake has a good home.

I hear ya. I'm getting ready myself to head out to the nature center and see if I can find any rare birds in this area. Got any snow in the desert? I have never been in the desert when it's been covered in snow. Someday!

An old man once told me that they remind him of women.
He said that they will go with anyone who will pet them and feed them.
<wink>

Have an enjoyable day. Make sure you get outside today even if just for a few minutes.

Merry Christmas Raptor. Tell da udder one in da howse dat tew. K?

For your enjoyment - a story.
A Christmas story. The politically (in)correct Night Before Christmas.

Da Night Befo Crizmus

Wuz da night befo Crizmus, and all thru da hood,
mah homeys be sleepin and be sleepin real good.
We hunged up some socks, an hoped like all heck,
dat dear Ol Obama gunna brang us our check.

All of da fambly was lying on da flo,
my sista wid her gurlfren, an my brotha wif sum ho.
Da ashtrays all full, empty beer cans an all,
when I hears such a fuss, I thunk ... "shit, it mus be da law".
I pulls da sheet off da winda, fo wut I cud see,
I wuz spectin da man, wif a warrant fo me.

But wut duz I see makes me say, "Lawd looka dat".
Dere wuz a big ol watamelon, pull by 8 bigass rats.
Now oer all da years, Santy Claus, he be white,
but it look like us brothas got a blackun tonight.

Faster den a po-lise caw, my homeboy he cum,
an whup up on dem rats, as he call dem by name.
On Biden, on Jessie, on Pulosi an Hillary Who,
On Fannie, on Freddi, on Ayers, an Slick Willy too.

Now B, he landed dat melon right dere in a bit,
I dun seed it fo sho ... can you believe dat shit?
Dat Santy didn't need no chimbly, he pick da lock on mah do,
an I sez to mahself, "Sumbitch, he dun did dis befo"!

B had a big bag uh presents, at fust I suspeck,
wif Air Jordans an sum gold chain tuh wear roun my neck.
But he lef me no presents, B jes start stealin mah shit.
He gets all mah guns, an mah crack, an took mah lock pick.

Den wif mah shit in his sack, out da winda he flu.
I sho wudda shanked em, but he snag mah knife too.
He jump back in dat wattamelon wifout even a hitch,
an wuz gone in two seconds dat democrat sumbich!

Sos nex year I be hopin', a white Santy we git,
cuz dat black Santy Claws ain't wurf a shit.

For what it is worth, I share your daughter's distaste for those photos. Last season, I had a devil of a time convincing someone to NOT take a picture of me with my harvest, as I do not wish to glorify the death of a relative so that I may live. There is no glory in causing death no matter the animal in question, including the two leggeds.
Merry Christmas all !!

I see that Squach hasn't replied in some time.
Hope all is well with him and everyone else.

I can see where people are proud of their accomplishments.
There is no denying that. That is why you see pictures and mounts.
Ever see a picture of a cake someone made?
How about a fingerpainting on the side of a fridge?
Someone breaking the tape at a finish line?
A small rock retrieved from the top of a mountain?

After all...if you aren't proud of what you're doing...then why do it?
Much less take pictures of it.

I disagree with pope and young assertions that IT is about honoring the animal.
If so....there would be no mention of the hunter. So it's not glorifying death....it's
'Glorifying' an accomplishment.
.
All that said...you'd be hard pressed to find a picture of me with a deer although I was smiling for a trail camera
Recently. There may have been a deer running away in the background....

Are some people competitive?
Absolutely....

That's been going on for a long time...
