Opinion: Is 'Philomena' an anti-Catholic film?
#1 Jan 9, 2014
I did not feel the movie is anti-Catholic. The Catholic Church has to deal with past issues where the church has severally mishandled situations. The adoption practice in Ireland is a major one. The church needs to acknowledge the tragedy, try to rectify as much as possible and make sure it does not happen again. We should not bury our heads in the sand. Admit mistakes, make amends as best as possible and move on. There are anti-Catholic people in movie, but that does not make it an anti-Catholic flick. Judy Dench is a Catholic in the movie and is the hero of the show.
