Full story: Santa Cruz Sentinel

Friends and loved ones of Mardi Wormhoudt remembered the former mayor and county supervisor Saturday as an unapologetic soldier for social justice whose passion for uplifting the poor, promoting equal rights and protecting the environment was matched only by an abiding affection for her family and dedication to the city she helped rebuild.

I think Mardi deserves a great deal of respect...but I truly wish the sentinel would stop being the cheerleading squad for santa cruz's version of the local football team (I mean really, seriously, how many articles of this sort can you guys do?). It is truly sycophantic and ultimately disrespectful, your articles undercuts the true achievements of a controversial figure. Next time I need to buy a highschool yearbook, I will not be buying the sentinel.

In tribute, let us re-name the statue in front of the Town Clock to the "Mardi Wormhoudt Collateral Damage Metaphor".

She was a force for negativity and power. Men are villified for similar behavior. She is a prime reason why the Santa Cruz experiment has failed. Its a wonder how these folks pat themselves on the back with their 'success'.

Let's hope this is the last of these articles that treat her like a saint (yes a veiled negative reference here and there, but come on...).

"Recalling the piercing stare she reserved for opponents, friends said the always sharply dressed Wormhoudt didn't care what people thought of her as long as she was doing what she felt was right, whether it was standing up for gay rights, raising the profile of women in local politics, fighting for water conservation or advocating for the homeless."
RIP, Ms. Mardi Wormhoudt.
Condolences to the family.

Daily Horoscope for January 8

Leo

Why are you still fighting, Leo? Everyone else went home a long time ago, but you're still here pounding your fists on the table. Although you don't want to admit it, accepting defeat may be your most practical option at this point. Sometimes it's just easier to move on than to keep up the fight. When you're forced to restructure, at least you have a chance to redefine. YouÕl get the opportunity to start with a clean slate, so use it to your advantage.
