Dear Simmons Family,
I live in RPV with my children and my retired LAPD officer husband. I have read that you have two children, ages 13 and 15. I cannot tell you how often I think of all of you and wish that you were not suffering as I know that you all are. Please know that there are so many neighbors out here praying for all of you.

With very deepest sympathy and love,
Your neighbor, Suzanne Wright

Dear Suzanne Wright,

We know some people care, but most prefer to preserve the status quo, even in Rancho Palos Verdes. They don't want to rock-the-boat, as long as they feel that they [themselves] are safe.

We know that the mayor and Councilmen Doug Stern and others maintained "they're running separate campaigns," but they had aligned themselves against two challengers, as we read it in the "Breeze," by "endorsing one another."

And negative campaigning had surfaced in mailers and in local newspaper ads, attacking the sitting council members. "Meanwhile, a councilman not up for re-election has aligned himself with a challenger in hopes that one of the incumbents will be ousted."

Paul Wright, who finished a 26-year career with the Los Angeles Police Department and moved to the Palos Verdes Peninsula four years ago, "says the city's crime rate is increasing and that he's the only one who knows how to stop it," as Megan Bagdonas reported in November.

"I think we've lost track of crime in this city and there isn't anyone on council with the expertise to sit down with the experts and evaluate the statistics and reduce the crime instead of watching it slowly increase," Paul Wright said.

And that is the real issue, how long are we willing to stand idly by and watch? The trouble doesn't stop in Hawthorne and in Gardena, or in Hahn's San Pedro, it's slowly creeping up the Hill!

People need to speak out, and take sound and viable corrective actions, before it is too late.
