Dad was always very grateful for the people of Ketchikan who assisted in the search for almost three weeks, for those that found and helped to rescue him and the other three survivors, and for the kind care in two weeks of his recovery. He also spoke with reverence about Susan Batzer for her poise as she realized she recognized her fate. And he always spoke of Harold Gilam with high regard for his bravery in setting out to find rescue for his passengers, fully recognizing the great of the risks involved.
