What motivates someone who has all the tools for success, the family history, the wife and children, and the wealth he and his family created -- to commit suicide, if that is what occurred.
Lots of questions here but no answers discernible from the article other than the big one -- why!
The family is entitled to its privacy, for sure. However, given the references to his church attendance I wonder why no service, memorial or otherwise.

It is peculiar. On the surface, David had everything that many people would equate with success. Unfortunately, the business world he had to play in runs strong with charlatans, phonies, users and make-believe friends. It may be fulfilling to the pocket book, but not to the soul.
David did not necessarily enter that world voluntarily, he was born into it. He was also the political-front man. It had to be very treacherous waters with the corruption crisis in San Bernardino County. You could not have helped but to get singed by some of the embers even if you were not directly involved. He was forced to work within a world that involved these people.
Couple this with a domestic crisis and you have an unfortunate recipe for a deep personal depression.
May he rest in peace.

What a tragedy. The sedution and glitter of success do not satisfy the soul. One must wonder if David felt the drag of criminal investigation into his associates. The Lewis business had an association with Burum through Rancho Alliance. The Rancho Alliance was interested in developing 1200 acres of land in Rancho Cucamonga that Burum etal had hoped negotiate in a land settlement deal. Instead, they received $102 million. The Lewis business was located and heavily involved in Upland. Was there a possible connection of the Upland FBI investigation? It is also odd that he shot himself in the chest. My prayers are with his family. It is so sad.

You sir, are simply the lowest type of life form in this world! Exploitation of someones pain is simply wrong. To find enjoyment in inciting others emotion is psychopathic!
OK OK, I'm sorry Lionel. I just think there are alot of unanswered questions.

Yes, there are a lot of unanswered questions. It is shocking and eerie. What is so strange is that it has happened just a week or two after the Upland raid by 40 FBI investigators. The Lewis business has many associations with local developers including Congressman Gary Miller. A while ago the Daily Bulletin carried a story regarding a real estate deal with the city of Fontana, The Lewises and Congressman Gary Miller. There where questions about that deal and how it was done. Wasnt it that the Lewises sold the land to Miller that Fontana wanted, then Miller bought it and then sold it to Fontana himself? Congressman Miller has also been investigated for his real estate dealings in other cities. The Attorney General and FBI involvement in this county pertaining to alleged illegal business practices makes you wonder about this whole scenario and if it is related. Whatever the outcome the death of David Lewis is such a tragedy that is gives us all pause making us ponder our own mortality and the responsiblity for our actions while on earth. May the Lord have mercy on his soul and that of his family.

The Daily Bulletin does not seem to shed enough light on some if the troubles that Lewis was experiencing. Seems little like "filtered" reporting?

When someone like this starts to lose in life, it's too much to take. Perhaps he had a blessed life (unlike 99% rest of us) and could not deal with failure. Sometimes it's just better to be a lovable, handsome loser, such as my self, hehe!(Hugs, ladies?)

David in no longer with us anymore.

However, all of us will be joining him in due time and this is a PROMISE.

David was born into a blessed life but if you new David like I did you would understand that David sometimes resented his privileged life. As a child he would deny lavished gifts from family and instead earn the money on his own working in the mailroom at the family business to buy the things he wanted. David has earned everything he had in this world through hard work and creativity, he worked tirelessly day and night to make a successful company even more successful. I cannot reach an undertsanding of why this happened but I can tell you we all lost someone very special, regardless of the means to his end.

I worked at Lewis with David for over 10 years. I, too, was shocked to hear about his death. I will remember him for his kindness and no matter how busy he was, always had a smile for you. I can only imagine what the family is going through. My prayers go out to them.

Only one person can know for sure why David Lewis ended his own life, and that's David Lewis. All the rest is speculation. Show his family some respect. Rest in peace.

Dear Eli Broad,
You are an awful person and a pathetic internet troll. Even though you are a lousy and sub-standard human being, I wouldn't wish his pain and sadness upon you. This even though you deserve it in spades and he didn't.
Eli Broad, you are indeed a dumb broad, I hope you go back to whatever hole you crawled out of and get lost in it. You demean a much better human being than yourself. Requeiam in peace David, you deserved better. I swear I will make sure that what was best of you is known to your son

This is so sad, and I hope they investigate further. From what I have read he does not seem the type of man to take his own life...he seemed much stronger than that, and it seems he loved and valued his family(his child especially) too much to take his own life...something just doesn't add up
