Interesting article.

Nice to see that they have come to the same conclusions as other earthquake hunters in that outbreaks of gaga precede major eathquakes.

Sadly with the entire region going gaga the sites being protected may be destroyed along with the states hosting the archaeology.

The likely megathrust quake @ the end of all this chaos will be likely from the Toros/Cyprus arc with a SW vector & bloody great tsunami.

By then (due in about a century) the entire region is likely to be back in the stone age through internal breakdown.

An asteroid strike is likely to produce a megathrust quake in the region & a lot of the rest of the Mideast arcs & ranges prior to the timeout (which would cure a lot of the gaga by removing the inhabitants). Sad news is that there is no signs of a major impact due in the coming century, & diverting a major asteroid on a decadal timescale is a bit outside of practical engineering right now (the death toll would be lower in an asteroid strike, so it would be a handy idea). Other problem with diverting an asteroid is aim(it may be perfectly on latitude and in the wrong time zone, which is why deity interventions calling for just such a scenario tends not to work...).

Just going to have to do things the hard way & prevent the gaga from breaking out in states outside the Mideast.
Museum storage outside the Mideast would be a particularly good idea (look what happened to Egypt when they had a bad case of the Shiites last year). Vault exchange storage would be a very useful option for small (15 tons or less)mostly fragile items.

Also appears that turmoil in area has led to the loss of the 2 surviving pre mongol invasion Korans, & as a result the mahommedeans may now be extinct in the region.

Have a nice day: Ag
