Technically true, but for different reasons.
The DPRK wants Nukes as a way to guarantee its national existence and security from all comers, including but not limited to any threat agz the DPRK from China itself.
OTOH, China uses the DPRK as a PDeniable, third-party "hedge" agz its regional and international rivals. North Korea's job in major war is to basically destroy itself for China engaging + tieing down the combined military forces of the US, ROK, Japan?+ UN Command to the advantage of the PLA. NORTH KOREA'S JOB IS TO DIE FOR CHINA, which works for China because - among other - there will no longer be any North Korean Army to resist the PLA as the latter bravely militarily intervenes on the DPRK's behalf to "save" the country + fellow Communists from the wily dastardly imperialist US-Allies.
The US, ROK, Japan?+ UNCOM will on their part will also be too heavily damaged to resist or defeat a PLA-led forced takeover of the entire Korean Peninsular + likely even TAIWAN.
China's focii in the ongoing Sino-Japanese dispute over the mutually disputed Senkaus/Diaoyus, is N-O-T these small islands or reeflets, BUT TAIWAN PROPER. WIDOUT MILITARY OR SOVEREIGN CONTROL OVER TAIWAN, IN CHINA'S MIND THERE IS NO "POST-US", FUTURE "WORLD #1", "MANIFEST DESTINY" FOR CHINA FOR MOST OR ALL OF THE REMAINDER OF THE 21ST CENTURY WHICH CHINA REGARDS AS ANATHEMA.
As things stand vee JAPAN, IMO China would likely desire a de facto DPRK collapse - China is highly unlikely to accept any kind of US, ROK,+ UNO intervention in a post-collapse DPRK where China is NOT in charge. A DPRK collapse now only means China + PLA is that much closer to being in a good position to militarily attack Japan + SDF over the Senkakus/Diaoyus, TAIWAN as above,+ even OKINAWA.
China desires the Senkakus + Okinawa to protect the Air-Sea[Space?] approaches to + from WESTPAC vee its desired future PLA Milbases on TAIWAN.
DO NOT BE FOOLED - THERE ARE BIGGER, POTENTIALLY BADDER THINGS AT PLAY OR ISSUE HERE THAN JUST NORTH KOREA'S = KIM JONG-UN'S THIRD NUCLEAR TEST.
