When a president of USA says something, it becomes the basis for government policy and planning. That applies to the whole world btw.
One must ask; Why did Barack Obama pick this point in time to push his flawed policy on AGW - er, climate change yeah that's the phrase accepted nowadays amongst the fraudsters - to the huddled masses? Could it be to hide the gargantuan costs that are now popping up regarding the idiocy known as obamacare? Could it be to hide his administration's shredding the constitution and spying on innocent Americans? It's painful to see. It's so sad to see the deniers - those who love Barack and deny his utter failure - continue to defend that failure. Soon we'll have people dying due to lack of power because idiots continue to believe in the fraud and push these ridiculous "renewable energy" policies. Indeed, our president has already said he'd rather see Africans dying in the mud than have access to cheap plentiful energy. Must be his racist white half making policy...

I've long said that leftist so called 'green' policies will lead to worse environmental outcomes and I can see it already - people are turning to firewood to heat their homes at record levels here because energy prices have gone up so much. I will also be installing a fireplace for next winter where all that harmful smoke and ash can go into the atmosphere as opposed to harmless co2 and steam from our electricity plants!

who would have thought green policy would lead to trees being cut down? anyone with half a brain! you only have to look at environmental conditions in poor countries to see where all this socialist experimentation will lead.

Likely the timing is controlled by how much other work had to be done. The Republican controlled house, for example, is still trying to dismantle the reform of the medical aid (Obamacare) pioneered by one of their own. Thirty seven times they have tried to vote it down and gotten nowhere.

Now, Obama has to determine what are the next priorities and the economy is vital. A long term plan for economic progress HAS to deal with AGW.

Please explain what you see as the 'flaw'. You have nothing to support this claim.

AGW. We can do nothing about climate change but accept that it is a response to AGW which we CAN do something about.

See. I knew you had an agenda that had nothing to do with the science. Facts are that public health measures such as Medicare and Medicaid were costing the most (due to conflicts in programs) while providing the least. Streamlining this to make it more cost effective even got support among the Replubicans. Otherwise it would not have passed.

The programs to tap into cellphones and ISPs was started under the Republican watch. I am VERY disappointed that Obama has continued it, but the Republican dominated House approves it on a year by year basis and Obama can do little to control it. It is not in HIS power.

What is painful is to follow the twists and turns of your logic trying to blame reality on one man.

I fail to see any support for Obama (or attacks on him) among the denialists. It is generally politically motivated trolls like you that praise or damn his as "the one man". Most posters realize that the problem is with physics, economics, etc and praise or damn particular changes that help or damage the issue.

Are you trying the 'death panels' crap again? Fact is that renewables are rapidly replacing expensive and dangerous fossil fuels for economic reasons such as that they are competitive but less regulated (due to having fewer pollutants).

Nah, the timing is controlled by a desire to get the focus off of his destruction of America. Yes, I know our Dear Leader is not solely responsible for the coming destruction. No one person can be held responsible for it. I do blame all the clueless voters who voted for him though. Do you understand the utter uselessness of so called renewable energy? Are you aware that it doesn't save "greenhouse gasses" at all? Are you aware that the power grid is not reduced with these unreliable under-performing wastes of money? Just look at the facts. That is the flaw. Too many idiotic ideas pushed in the name of ever expanding government - for the supposed good of the people. As far as Medicaid and Medicare, yeah, they are inefficient. That in effect is the cornerstone of my argument. Obamacare ups that inefficiency by an order of magnitude. Instead of letting the market set the standard, yes you will see government bureaucrats set the standard. If you wish to call them death panels, have at it. I am sure the kind and caring panel members will have a much gentler name. You know, kinda like the euphemistically named "Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act"; which neither protects patients nor provides anything affordable. Unless fewer doctors is protecting patients, and 80% increases in premiums is affordable. Well, maybe Barack thinks fewer doctors is patient protection. After all, he believes doctors are in business to provide unnecessary foot amputations. And never forget: Their ultimate goal is single payer. The Shamans saying AGW is nigh are simply paid shills for big government. Sucking at the money teat for all they're worth.

Regarding the SA article. Please help me out here. Is Natural Gas no longer a fossil fuel? Help me out here. Oh, maybe it's now renewable due to fracking. Something Barackites are tying to destroy also... One of the reasons that power plants like these have been in operation is because of insane anti-nuclear regulations pushed by the EPA. So where does my claim come from? Don't you keep up with the news? Dear Leader was in South Africa saying that Africans shouldn't be allowed to build modern power plants and provide citizens with power because it would increase the amount of "greenhouse gasses". Well, he did say that if was done with renewables, Pharaoh Obama would verily allow such malfeasance. Of course thereby condemning Africa to backwardsness since renewables are a sham. So yeah, I guess Dear Leader is a racist after all.

Guess McKitrick is following the 'Bjorn Lomborg' model. If you cannot get the denialists to pay you enough to deny the science, you can try to get in on public money to fight AGW. Usually with tricky mechanisms that will do little to solve the problem while making it easy to 'game' it.

A clear and simple 'carbon surcharge', set by international agreement based on 5 year meetings and applied by each country (which rebates it to the citizens to minimize the impact on the economy any way they need to) is the ONLY efficient and effective strategy. No 'permit trading' or fancy regulation that will just give the lobbyists room to make 'slush funds' and 'loopholes'.

Yes, eventually it probably will, though in the reduction of oil consumption stakes the US still has a long way to go.

Luckily, their number is falling, the rate of attrition is high.

The whole environmental debate , and so many other contentious important issues , will only ever be solved with both sides of politics agreeing on a commonsense solution. Too many issues are needlessly politicized these days , which basically makes it impossible to solve anything at all. Rudd has defused the "carbon tax" nonsense , and Abbott has the shits , because he needs it to be a public shitfight for purely political reasons , which is completely immoral.
