The trend seems consistent with the increase in ocean temperatures (the fuel). An interresting study. It lacks on factor that seems important which is the SIZE of the storm, not just the wind intensity. Recently hurricanes have become 'monsters' with a huge area. This affects the 'total energy' metric much more than the 'average wind speed' .
