Interesting to see lava this time.

Previous february "flash eruption" from the "Bocca nuova" produced only external ashfall and an intracrater lava flow.

Appears that there is now a connection at mid level between the Bocca Nuova and the new SE crater formed by last year's flash eruption series.

Would like to see more pics.

Of interest here is also the earthquake record for tectonism. The Calabrian backarc basin descending crust shows up under the aeolian islands heading NNW toward campania. This descending crust is noticeable by its absence unde Etna which appears to be tapping magma from deep crustal fractures under Sicily. This set of magma filled fractures appears to have formed from a major crustal relaxation quake under the atlas range and also the Calabrian backarc basin.
The fact that descending crust shows up under Calabria is probably due to it being in the late stage of recompression, whereas the sicily reguion & rifts are still able to recompress via sideways motion rather then enabling crustal descent.
Magma incorporated into Etna may also come from a NE trending fracture under the arc part of the calabrian backarc basin into the more uncompressed crust under Etna.

Current flash eruptions appear to be derived from a sicilian fracture set SW. of Etna with a rather slower recompression rate than Calabria. There may be a difference in magma composition between the NW, and SE fracture set (may be difficult to spot due to "mix & splurt" via the high level magma chamber reaction vessel.

Result is that Etna will remain active for a considerable amount of time to come.

have a nice day: Ag
