Nice article.

Seems to be a small unrifted large igneous province, probably similar in size to the Columbia river basalt plateau.

What appears to kill the larger type basalt plateau large igneous provinces is the development of a rift with the large single volcano then subdividing into classic volcano sized subvolcanoes along the rift Iceland style.

Would be a good target for an ODP mission to establish if it ever produced rhyolite in the summit region or shut down abruptly as a result of the feeding plume producing another volcano elsewhere. Something like a single volcano of this size is likely to run through the entire kaboodle of Komatiite base, Picrite lava pile spread flows, casaltic shield flows, and a central summit caldera filling rhyolite cap (& possible ignimbrite flow field if it reached close to sea level).

The image show the classic Mauna loa type tripartite rift system and lots of pimples which are probably later seamounts. How much later the seamounts are is an open question right now.

Despite comparisons with Olympus Mons in other articles it does not look a lot like it but it is likely that the pile has sunk & flattened out by depressing the underlying oceanic crust, and in that case it probably did break sea level during its formation & growth stage.

Have a nice day: Ag
