They may have to call it "Sina" now that the bung has finally blown off. It may take a few months to grow it back again.

A look @ the pics shows that the original cone is deeply incised with large radial valleys and it has been relatively quiet for a long time with only eruptions of a summit dome complex in recent history.

several of the radial valleys appear to show thermal fields in the valley heads close to the "bung" dome complex.

There may be a medium scale lahar & pyro flow risk @ the valley floors as the summit bung regrows.

This volcano appears to be the northernmost in the segment relieved by the big tsunamigenic quake of ~1846 or so. The long magma filled fracture produced by that quake appears to be squeezed fastest in the S.@ Toba area, so the magma passes under Toba in the fracture set & is now emergent @ Sinabung where the convergence rate and recompression rate is lowest.
The size & length of the fracture is unknown it may only extend to the N. Toba rim,(which is likely considering its relatively low productivity in late Holocene times).

Keep watching that space, it is likely to be active off & on until the magma filled fracture is squeezed flat and is all dumped into the base magma chamber (may take a few decades in fits & starts).

Have a nice day: Ag
