May not be a deep freeze in Australia right now, (Summer probably having something to do with that) but it is certainly a lot colder than expected just south of there as the Australian expedition to Antarctica remains stuck in the ice, and the Australian taxpayers are stuck with at least a $400,000 bill the pay for the fiasco.

Meanwhile, the summer is currently quite mild in the South East of Australia (where most people live). According to the locals' take on weather history.
Australia is a "big" country. The heat wave in Queensland (the North) hasn't impacted too much in Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, etc
