Just goes to show - we are still 2nd class citizens - in this case when it comes to "free speech."
I've always said that the USA has priority problems. What applies to one, doesn't necessarily apply to the other. It depend on who either has the most power or the most money.
Sad.
Yes, however, even then I would still say no to classifying them as a hate group. They are not committing any violence ..... yet. That's the key difference between idiots with free speech and a hate group, even the KKK is now allowed to hold marches and gatherings, even protests, because they stopped supporting any violence, officially. Freedom of speech is a double edged sword, but we cannot allow or even expect our government to restrict the free speech of anyone who is not committing a crime otherwise all free speech is threatened. Many communities are finding creative means to run off WBC, sometimes employing the aid of local biker clubs, and those people are scary when they scowl. Others will "crowd" out the WBC morons, a similar tactic is used against the KKK even. Speaking of the KKK, irony time, even the KKK thinks that WBC is too extreme.

It has always been this way in our American Republic. Everyone has a different idea about what is the best way to proceed. Unfortunately both sides often want to make the Government stronger to force their views onto everyone. But this more powerful government then has a nasty habit of turning around and biting the very people who made it stronger in the butt.
I want to make the Government smaller and to have it allow each of us the freedom AND THE RESPONSIBILITY to manage our own lives. This was not a popular idea 200 years ago as it is not popular today. Our Founding Fathers were often at odds with one another.
Today our government has evolved into a fascist state which is to say that Big Business pays elected officials to hop in bed with them. Our Government no longer serves the needs of the individual but the wants and desires of their bed partners, giant corporations. Sometimes that works out well when board members and executive officers are gay and take up the cause of equality for gay people. Sometimes the giant corps want to do the right thing, but that just means that the individuals suffers at the whim of the powerful companies.
This is why voting is pretty much a waste of time, all you are doing is sending a new whore to Congress.
That's not "fascist", it's "elitist" and "oligarchic".

"Citizen's United" helped that along.

Thw WBC has done immeasurable good for the LGBT community. Through their bigotry, they have helped to actually turn countless Americans AGAINST bigotry. Think about it.

Not unless there is a violent overthrow of the legal government here (which is highly doubtful but has happened before.
The U.S. has the oldest continuous constitutional government in the world, and the reason for that IS the strength, malleability, and durability of the U.S. Constitution. What you are suggesting would require doing away with that venerable document that has served us so well these past 223+ years, or at least heavily amending it, and that just ain't gonna happen.

Yes, and Rome existed for over a thousand years. The U.S. is not going to collapse tomorrow.

But the U.S. WILL collapse sooner rather than later if the American people don't demand an end to catastrophic budget deficits, uncontrolled spending and not getting the country's financial affairs in order.

i have LONG believed that the U.S. will collapse one day. But nobody of course knows how close that day is.

Oh, so you have NO problem with Westboro, huh? How nice, next time some heroic soldier is being laid to rest in your town, and those maniacs show up and picket, I guess you will grab a sign and join them.

As usual, your hate agenda to all things gay has over powered your senses and you have IGNORED the most vile people alive, the Phelps clan, to yell your insults. I wonder why you are so ANGRY at gay people?

He's just trying to draw attention away from the fact that Europa, Fa-Foxy, Frank Stanton, and Daniel P should be classified as a hate group.

"Frank Stanton". I had not thought of that name in a while. I wonder why he dropped that one?

Probably just forgot about him. Memory impairment is part of the heartbreak of Dissociative Identity Disorder.

The Obama administration won't classify the congregation of a church as a "hate group" simply because they speak out against homosexuals and the military. If they did that, they would be ostracising a huge block of their own Democrat base.

Except the WBC wackos are NOT a congregation, NOR a church. They're a group of hateful nuts, all related to one another by blood or marriage.

And NOBODY recognizes them as a legitimate church, because they're not. They're mostly a bunch of nutty lawyers.

While i support free speech, i feel WBC abuses the privillege. While i agree homosexuality is,wrong. I dont agree with them picketing the funerals of soldiers who fought and died for their country.

There is no love found in this group.

I think you are giving WBC members too much credit. You have to be able to read to be a lawyer!

They ARE attorneys. And at one time, the Chief Wacko was actually a highly-regarded civil rights attorney who represented poor black people.

Why anyone thought the government could do something like that says a lot about the intelligence of the writers of the petitions and the signatories.
Westboro would make any right thinking citizen vomit but we can't shut them down for their speck.
Far better to just ignore them at this point. They'll die off soon. Enough
There isnt much intelligence behind these petitions. The whole white house petition site is a joke. I have yet to see it be useful in any kind of way. Its why you have petitions like this or the death star one; or any other that has been responded to that sounds more like a auto reply from an email.

For ONCE, your comment is correct and on point. Fred was a spark plug of civil rights, but somehow he went south and who knows what is up with him and his?

I am guessing a small stroke or early dementia would cause his terrible behavior. The kids who have escaped claim child abuse and terrible bullying of his family. Lovely values out there.

Presumably they are "different" Baptists which allows them to worship Osama Bin Laden. How did I guess Obama is cool with this?.

Wether or not Westboro Baptist Church is a real church is beside the point. The Obama administration will never classify an organization as a hate group because they're anti-homosexual or anti-military. A huge block of the Democrat constituency is anti-homosexual and anti-military.
