There are 4 comments on the NBC29 Charlottesville story from Jun 28, 2013, titled Rivanna Conservation Society Promoting Rain Barrel Use. In it, NBC29 Charlottesville reports that:

"We've here in Charlottesville had a lot of rain of late and now if we had rain barrels in our yard we could have been using that rain water to water our plants and our gardens and wash our clothes and do the kinds of things that we're not encouraged to do in a drought," said Robbi Savage of the Rivanna Conservation Society.

Loony tunes. My rain barrels have been running over for the last two months. My garden and plants need less water, not more. Actually, most of my garden is still unplanted because you can't plant in the mud.

They might be on to something with using the rain barrel water to wash clothes--as soon as they tell us how to pump the water through the washer. Maybe they are using a wash tub and a washboard.

If you are going to do this, make sure you mosquito-proof your barrels with a screen (not all screens work so do some research and watch your barrels closely).

If enough people do this improperly then they're just laying the foundation for a malaria or yellow fever outbreak.

But then again, for the envio-left, "population control" ranks right up with sustainability, organic farming and carbon elimination on the list of Utopian priorities.

You never know with these people...
