About time too.
That one has been on the sidelines in the news for a very long time.
The reason for the overpressure of sedimentary water in the arc graben that was tapped causing the eruption is because Java is in the late stage of recompression prior to a Rebound/long duration mercalli X quake (r/lx) which will relax the crust and unleas a bloody great big tsunami.
The previous lusi hills that dot the region were formed from natural breakages along the fault that confines the arc based lusi basin. They should be dateable by 14c to give a reasonable estimate of recurrence time for the recompression and overpressure. Immediately after the closure of the natural lusi hill growth event would be an r/lx and tsunami relaxing the crust and ending the overpressure.
The exponential decrease in pressure is probably a result of a limited basin size. I do not think that the closure date will be the end of activity for this one, as a result of continued recompression which will probably result in future eruptions @ the site. The r/lx in the java arc appears to be at least a century away, & being tapped rather than natural this event erupted early.
Will keep watching that space.
Have a nice day: Ag
