If newspapers jump on board all of these new technologies they can compete, but likely at the loss of the print editions. Twitter, blogs, etc. are all well and good, but they too often are avenues for presenting people's ideas and opinions about issues, and not presenting a (supposedly) impartial account of the issues themselves.
Another problem is the technology itself. Today we have blogs and Twitter. Who knows what is coming next next week, next year? In the wake of shrinking circulation and advertising dollars, newspapers are going to need capital in order to invest in the technologies to keep up and, given the economy, there is not a lot of capital out there right now.

Why do we have this incessant physical attachment to books and newspapers? News is news whether you hear it, see it, or read it.

Save the trees. Print on line. Paper is the past.
