Librarian Fired After Defending Child Who Loves to Read
A veteran New York librarian was stunned to learn this week that she was being fired after 41 years on the job - all because she defended a child whom her boss felt read too much.

absolutley unfair to the reader and to the employee. The town and library should be embarrassed.

Marie Gandron sounds like a btch! So because other kids can't keep up the standards are to be lowered? How about encouraging the others to try harder? This is what happens in the real world, if you can't keep up you fall behind. Don't ever lower the standards, simply encourage to do better. And she states, he "hogs" the library? So now it's bad for a kid to want to read a lot? That's absurd! This lady clearly doesn't need to be working with children! Ever!!

Shame on the Library Board. Wouldnt you have preferred to gain national notoriety for supporting your Summer Readers program? What a disappointment.
