John Walsh has an excellent new show on CNN Sundays at 9 called "The Hunt," that profiles the worst of the worst fugitives on the run. THANK GOD, Walsh has on his webpage, a case BPD has LONG, LONG asked Walsh to run: The Sid Wells/ Thayne Smika case. Hopefully, they will feature it on his show. I pray they catch this creep, "The Hunt" AMW is the perfect venue, all that's needed is someone to see the age progressed picture and someone close to that in real life. Please pray for Justice for Sid Wells and that someone spots Smika and turns him in. Sid Wells parents have done everything and more to help law enforcment catch this creep. Scroll down:

http://www.cnn.com/interactive/2014/06/us/the...

In January 1983, Sid Wells, a 22-year‐old journalism student at the University of Colorado at Boulder, posted an ad for a room for rent. Seven months later, he was dead – shot in the back of the head, execution-style. The chief suspect: his new roommate, Thayne Smika, a 24-year-old college dropout from Akron, Colorado. Wells allegedly had trouble collecting the rent from Smika, and authorities believe the roommates were arguing over the late rent payment shortly before Wells was killed inside the apartment. Police arrested Smika on October 6, 1983, but prosecutors declined to charge him with the killing, saying there wasn’t enough evidence. Boulder police reopened the case in 1997 and, with the FBI’s help, established new forensic and ballistic evidence linking Smika to the murder. A warrant for Smika’s arrest was issued in 2011, but he has yet to be located. Boulder police believe he may have a new identity, and his family may be helping him. Recent information indicates he may be living near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The case attracted the attention of the national media because Wells was dating Robert Redford’s daughter at the time he was killed.

•On the run: Since 1986
•The crime: Suspect in the killing of his roommate
•Where could he be: Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

These are the age progressed photos of what Smika may look like today, as done by the FBI:

We have a lot of posters and readers from all over the world. Take a good look at these photos please. Pass them to any websites in Mexico, or anywhere else they may be seen by many people. Thank you.

While on a business trip to Denver this last April, my wife and I did a drive by of the Ramsey home and went to a JonBenet discussion group. I had the pleasure of meeting retired BPD Fred Neitzel who was the lead detective involved with the 1983 BPD investigation into the murder of Sid Wells (boyfriend of Robert Redford's daughter Shauna).

I told Fred I read a lot about him and the Thayne Smika case and congratulated him on his career. Fred said he spent 3 years working on the case and was preparing for the formal charge and prosecution of Thayne Smika and discovered some deal the DA had made.

This and the many deals made by DA Alex Hunter with drug suspects obviously frustrated the BPD to no end and this frustration showed up in the JonBenet case. Regardless, my heart goes out to Alex for the recent loss of his son.

It was also suggested that Linda Arndt was manipulated somewhat by JR that morning, but that might just be hearsay.

Anyway, the Sid Wells case is clear and simple. Not like the Ramseys. Even Walker and Douglas said they have never seen a child garroted by a parent. I mean, can you even imagine Patsy staging that? That's not to say the Ramseys are lily white with multiple lawyers, but it's pretty obvious to me that JonBenet was garroted first.

Anyway my hat goes off to all officers who risk their lives in keeping our peace. Hopefully, Smika will show up and Sid Wells will finally get his justice.

This show is having a POWERFUL impact. Ratings are huge, and they one of the worst was killed today when police tried to arrest him:

A suspected sex offender recently featured on CNN's "The Hunt" with John Walsh was killed today while police were attempting to arrest him on child molestation charges, according to two New York City law enforcement sources.

Two U.S. marshals and a New York City police officer were also wounded during the attempted arrest, a law enforcement official said.

Charles Mozdir, 32, had been sought since June 2012.

To underscore the POWERFUL impact television has on catching fugitives, right now, CNN is re-running the segment of "The Hunt" that led to the capture/shootout and death of Charles Modir this past Monday,July 28th. The two crucial tips that led to police finding Modir came from viewers who saw this segment. God Bless the tipsters, CNN, John Walsh and the brave cops that were fired upon by this creep. The Sid Wells/ Thayne Smika case is coming up soon on The Hunt. NEVER GIVE UP ON JUSTICE!

The segment was excellent featuring BPD's Dave Haynes, who doggedly pursued this case for 30 years, and Ryan Brackley, the excellent DDA under Stan Garnett, who has tried so many of Boulder's cold cases under Stan Garnett. He trained in the Manhattan DA's office with legendary DA Robert Morgantheau.

They mention that a DA made a deal with Smika's lawyers NOT to indict Smika. They don't say the name Alex Hunter, or that Hunter did a similar thing in the JonBenet Ramsey case. They don't need to say all that here. What's needed is for people to realize Smika is at large and to turn in anyone that looks like him anywhere in the world.

hey Candy, I came here to tell you I watched the Hunt on Smika and that AH's name was never mentioned..you beat me to the punch! He was DA for what, 20 years? Why were they coy about AH's major blunder/greed?(I'm assuming Hunter had holdings with Smika's lawyers too, what else would motivate him to release a cold blooded killer?) I see no legal issues with naming the DA when anyone can look it up, so it's kind of silly and obvious, no?
I'm so glad this show is on CNN, they'll reach a lot more people this way.

Yeah, I believe both "sides" the DA's office and the Police Department were going very "light" on the whole thing. I think they didn't want to change the focus of the case to the past and Hunter's actions. Suffice it to say for now, the guy wasn't indicted by the grand jury and that's why he's been on the lam for the last 30 years.

I hope someone finds this creep asap. He's gotten away with murder for too long.

CNN's "The Hunt" is having a marathon tonight that started at 7:00 p.m. I felt the only thing wrong with the Sid Wells/Thayne Smika segment was NOT showing the age progressed drawings enough. It was showing an age progressed bust of suspect John List in an 18 year old case on AMW that led to List's capture.

Sid Wells wonderful mother, Mrs. June Menger, died at 75 this past September, after waiting for Justice for 30 years for her son, Sid. She and her family did everything and more to advance the cause of cold cases and cold case victims in Colorado. Dave Haynes, a BPD Detective, stayed with this case through thick and thin for 30 years as well. Please, where ever you are reading this anywhere in the world, HE could be there. PLEASE take a good, long look at the FBI poster with the age progressed drawings of THAYNE SMIKA the prime suspect would look like NOW 30 years after the crime. Let's pray someone sees the pictures, and turns him in. If you know where this man is, call either the FBI, or The Hunt toll free number where you don't have to give your name if you don't want to: www.fbi.gov/wanted/murders/thayne-alan-smika/ @@poster.pdf

Thank you for caring Robert.
CNN aired this segment again tonight, 1/23/15 @ 9:00 EST, prime time TV, the first segment shown. They also added the Mexican toll free tip line for tips, as well as the American. They also showed the age progressed drawing of what Smika MAY look like today, 30 years after the crime. World, let's FIND this man, and bring peace to the Wells/Menger families once and for all. Thank God for John Walsh and CNN not giving up, World, DON'T EVER GIVE UP. Take a good look at the photos of Smika shown and the age progressed drawing by the FBI. If you have seen ANYONE that MAY look like that, call the numbers listed. Thank you.

Funny you bring up Walsh when if you have read his book you would see he especially despises those who continuously victimize families who have already lost enough.
