The Search Warrants

I hope no one minds my starting a thread about this but I am discovering things I either never knew or have long forgotten. I mentioned the warrant of the 26 December in Cappy's 'what would you check thread.' As well as stating that John was the last person to see JonBenet in her bed, it says that John Fernie accompanied JR and FW on the final search of the cellar (which I'd forgotten entirely or didn't know) and that among items recovered from the body was a piece of paper?!

I'm now reading the warrant of the 27 December which confirms that black fibres were removed from JonBenet's genital area and shirt as well as dark hair on the shirt!

This may be just my ignorance and I hope you will all forgive me, but what do we know of this dark hair? Is this the beaver hair etc that is often mentioned in this case?

Sorry to bother you all but I am finding these warrants fascinating. I would love to see what is under the redactions, too..

Not a bother at all, and I would also love to see what was redacted.
Just another piece to the puzzle we could have answered if we knew.

If John Fernie helped search the cellar, it's news to me. It's never been mentioned by JR or anyone else that I know of.
I think I read that he searched the house upstairs for out of place things while JR and FW went to the basement to search, although how he would know what was "out of place" and what wasn't is beyond me since it wasn't his house.

Great post. I am quite interested in the search warrants too. I agree, the paper (recovered from the body) is bizarre.

There are MANY redactions. Some are blacked out, but many listed items jump from one number to another with quite a few missing numbers in between. These evidentiary items must be most crucial to the investigation?... If we read back through the interviews we may be able to make some good guesses as to what the redacted items may be.

The black fibers that were removed were the fibers referred to in that infamous interview. We have to remember that the Ramseys didn't turn over their clothing for a long time so the comparison to the shirt couldn't be done immediately.

As for the paper and the other blacked out items on the list, it would be wonderful to know all of that. I am going to assume that with Hunter in charge at the time, anything we don't know is incriminating to the Ramseys. Anything else would have made front page news to show it was an intruder, especially at that time

Anything that appeared to be non Ramsey evidence, or evidence that the Ramseys claimed not to know anything about was touted as the intruder, so I am going to believe that everything else was not so favorable to the Ramseys. We can only speculate

Unfortunately the Ramseys weren't asked for their clothing for almost a year - which benefitted the Ramseys to no end. There is no longer any chain-of-evidence for the clothing.

Had they been treated like POIs in any other case, the clothing would have been removed from the home on the 26th or 27th by the police via warrant.

The beaver hair was found on the duct tape per Steve Thomas's depo.

I realized a couple of things this morning: the Barbie nightgown next to JonBenet's body was kept in the open drawer (or one just below it) in her bathroom. Crime scene photo 18 includes the crumpled red turtleneck JonBenet was put to bed in, according to Patsy Ramsey's first statement, and the open drawer.

Also, John Ramsey's bathrobe was found on the floor in his third-floor study. That would put it next to the Bible open to Psalm 35 which I think reasonable people would agree is the probable source of "SBTC" in the ransom note.

Per Beckner's depo, blue cotton fibers were found "at the crime scene." (According to the Bonita papers, "Small dark blue fibers, consistent with a cotton towel, were recovered from the vaginal area.") I think these fibers are distinct from another set of dark fibers attributed to John's wool shirt, but I'm not positive.

It would be neat and tidy if John's navy blue bathrobe (Bonita papers) were the source of the blue cotton fibers, but the bathrobe seems to have been collected (BP again) and the blue cotton fibers have not been sourced (Beckner depo).

Which search warrants were you looking at? The Colorado warrants describe the fibers from the outside of the shirt and the “vaginal and pubic” area as both being DARK. I’m not seeing any reference to BLACK.

The warrant I am looking at is here: http://www.thesmokinggun.com/file/colorado-se...
