I agree TTH. It is disgusting and sick.

I hope the elk gets justice. It's time to show that animal cruelty will not be tolerated

This is one of those stories that can upset followers of the JonBenet case since we are starved for any information out of Boulder to suggest JBR is anything but a cold case mentioned on the BPD website.

On the other hand, this actually seems to me to be relatively harmless, and if people want to highlight man's sometimes horrendous behaviour towards animals in an innocuous way, I don't think we should take the conflation of the justice for JonBenet with that of the Boulder elk too far.

And, tbph, there is evidence of malfeasance beyond killing the elk - police lying etc - which isn't acceptable. It's actually the sort of dishonesty that the Ramseys would point out in questioning whether the BPD really could be trusted with custody of the case. If police can lie about an elk, what else are they capable of lying about?

Police are human beings and in this case, the defendants.

Defendants, suspects, etc. are going to do whatever they think will get them off the hook for their crime or misbehavior and police are no different, especially when this could cost them their entire careers.

I am not taking this as anything related to the JBR case at all; it's apples and oranges.

This is a separate case and has nothing to do with JBR other than that it is in Boulder.

Any horrendous behavior towards animals is worthy of the attention it gets and it usually does not get enough attention IMO, but I am a big fan of animals so it is pretty serious for those like me who are advocates for animals.

I hope those police officers get everything that they deserve by MY standards for killing an animal who was doing nothing more than LOITERING on a street corner.

First the scenarios are totally different like Capricorn said.

Second, and to your points Heloise, there are bad apples in every occupation and in every company or government group. It is to the credibility of the BPD that they took action against ‘their own’ for this offense and didn’t try and cover it up, then we might have to worry about the overall mindset of the police in general. I am sure there will be some IDI who fly in here and use it as a basis for how the whole Ramsey investigation went, but these guys also weren't homicide detectives, they were patrol cops, so the differences are far greater than the similarities.
