Judged: 3 3 3 “Spirit and Substance”(Vanity Fair Dec. 1984) In Piero’s time there was great theological controversy. The Renaissance questioned everything. What was the nature of the Virgin? Was she just an ordinary woman or was she of the divine essence? Questions about spirit and substance were argued endlessly. What is spirit? What is substance? Today we know more about substance than ever before, but the more we know the more it is recognized that we know nothing. Five hundred years have taught us nothing new about the life of the spirit. Piero della Francesca, like all great artists, did not accept any dichotomy between spirit and matter. There is no spirit without substance; the whole of nature is impregnated with spiritual life. His Madonna del Parto, one of the few pregnant Madonnas, is both human and touched with divine revelation. It is a work that reposes in its own mystery: Life emerging into the life of the world, Light into its light. PR's favorite author was interviewed by "Vanity Fair" in 1984.... Dame Spark's also had a book come out that same year.. Sure she didnt read it.. |

Judged: 3 3 3 Snip... A new work of transfixing originality from Jeanette Winterson -'a master of her material,' as Muriel Spark wrote in Vanity Fair,'a writer in whom talent deeply abides'- and her most beguiling, intensely moving novel to date. Written on the Body is a love story. And it is, like all Winterson novels, a philosophical meditation, this time on the body: the body as physical phenomenon - blood and bones and organs - and the body as repository of our emotions and souls. The object is a married woman named Louise, and the narrator of the story is her lover, gender undeclared. At once ambiguous and riveting, the narrator's consciousness powers the reader beyond the need to identify its sex, and directly into love itself. The affair intensifies beyond anything either lover has ever known or hoped for, and Written on the Body is a visceral, hypnotic dissection of their passion and longing. What these two find in the end, staring love and death in the face, is an extraordinary knowledge of the human heart, and a world of infinite possibility. http://www.lemuriabooks.com/index.php... |

Judged: 4 4 2 And thank you for what you are doing. Did Tricia tip you off that I was here? I asked her how to get a hold of you. I posted a long time ago that if I was amitious and disciplined I would write a book on Patsy and Spark titled "Patsy, Muriel and The Word". The Word refering to religious material. That book is still there to be done. What I have seen from your posts on websleuths is that type of work, well done. I've read 7 of Spark's books and a collection of her short stories and two bios and her autobio but that's it. There are so many things in those stories but I haven't even bothered to highlight them. There are such things as eery as a woman looking through splayed fingers after committing a crime. Spark's books are full of crime, madness and general mischief and speculation on the nature of life and our place in it. She at one time was big news but with the aging and death of the greatest genration she has faded from the scene. In the age of sound bites and CG tech and me-ism she is way to deep for the general reader. It's a no brainer that Patsy fell into that depth. I contacted the Spark Society once and came up with a respnse to see if Spark had ever correspnded with Patsy. The answer was that to that person's knowledge no. Other than that and reading that is all the detective work that I have done. I did have an e-mail back and forth with Thomas once. I could tell it was news to him. He was guarded but did express interest in the victory passage in The Prime. I'm known to Peter Boyles and I know that the BPD/DA's offices know my work. So there are slight inroads there if anything breaks. I urge you to send your posts to Boulder by e-mail. Believe me they will be filed. Getting more fans for Spark is a good thing in itself but the ultimate for me is getting Patsy's case into the psychology of crime books where it belongs. Thanks again. |

Judged: 3 2 2 No, it isn't true, because they would have to ban themselves if they were trying to get rid of stupid people. They are a small clique as you know, who mostly DO NOT even post on this case, they tell jokes, etc., the same way they did when they hung out at FlameSleuths, which is ALL they are. |

Judged: 1 1 1 I havent checked my mail at WS in forever, so if Tricia sent me anything I dont know about it yet. I in fact stumbled upon this thread this afternoon. Saw my name and jumped in. I am doing as you urged and sending everything I have gathered to Boulder and others. Im in fact trying to put it all in better order as I was rather sloppy in the gathering. It was reading your past posts that sparked my interest in this theory and trust me I have read everything I could find from archived WS, FFJ, WICI,CS and here at topix. I've found others in smaller forums that share the same theory but none of them had anything to add to the discussion beyond TPOJB.... I feel it goes so much deeper than that one book. Someone very near and dear to me suffers from "DID" Dissociative identity disorder. She's had it for years, was high functioning and none of us knew it. Until it came to a head and could no longer hide itself. I believe that Patsy suffered from the same or something very similar. Its my opinion that Muriel Spark's was Patsy's identifier and her works the world in which she lived. I'll me adding more to the WS thread. Ive found some interesting religious text in Luke and Acts that are very strong influences in "Loitering with Intent." What I think you'll find interesting, That is if you havent already found this yourself. When I asked my minister to help me understand what I was reading in the Book of Acts, he gave me a study guide that refers me often to the Psalms..... |

Judged: 1 1 1 That is a window into human behavior that few are prepared to understand or cope with but I think it is a key to Patsy and her crime. |
