Krystal Baker was murdered in March of 1996 and her body was dumped in an area that residents in my hometown refers to as The Killing Fields. The authorities didn't have a clue as to who the perp could be. After thirteen years someone decided to have her dress tested for DNA. DNA was found and placed in the national data base. In 2011 a hit there was a hit in the base when a man was convited of a drug charge. The hit came from Lousiana, this state requires all convicted felons to register their DNA. He admitted to the crime was tried, convicted and sentenced to life in prison. Texas does not require convicted felons to register their DNA in the data base. Please found out if the state in which you reside, has this law. If not, please talk to your congessman and let them know you would like to see this become a law in your state. This may help solve some unsolved murders, just as it helped solve the murder of krystal Baker.

Kassie, I saw the show and it was fascinating. I believe Alabama requires registration but with funding so low and more cutbacks in store, I believe for the most part, they are (out of necessity) swabbing the cheeks of felons but just storing them in a "wait for your turn" file and it will be years before they get caught up with testing them and putting them into CODIS.
I found it interesting that Krystal Jean Baker was a cousin to Norma Jean Baker, on her father's side. Norma Jean Baker, was, of course, Marilyn Monroe.

I saw the show last night and on it's orignal air date last fall. I didn't watch the entire show but i did see that it was an updated version. In the firt airing they reported an autopsy doctor that was fired because it was believed that she ruined the autopsy of Laura Smither (another girl found in the killing fields). A good friend of mine (Ted Walker )was this Doctor's lawyer and they actually won that law suit. There was alot more to the story. I remember Ted telling me that many of these autopsy doctors were practicing without licenses and many of the murdered victims were girls from the killing feilds. This means that if arrests were every made for the girls murders, the cases could be thrown out of court.

Actually Marilyn Monroe was Krystal's great-aunt.
