I was trying to explain the difference between a blog and a article. Twinks Posted a article last week , close to home so to speak. Reported by the Daily Herold. a Hispanic group claims discrimination on Du Page . The claim was on traffic stops. /www.dailyherald.com/article/2 0110301/news/702289755/ Only problem geographic mix of the city's may be off. What wasn't mentioned on the article was their many Hispanic officers in those cities and western Cook county. T |

If you are brown skinned you would be racially profiled if you are driving a car. Especially if your car is not necessarily a new car. Then it depends where you are driving. If you are driving in an area where there are not many Hispanics or Latinos that means you don't below there. |

Sandy, according to the law, they cannot stop someone unless they commit a traffic violation or other criminal act. Only then can they question them about residency if they fail to present a valid identity. |

By the way, 10 minutes in the sun and I turn as brown as anyone, darker than my Mexican daughter in law. My car is 13 years old. |
Yeah, that would be interesting if something like this would happen to someone like you. Believe it or not, the brown (tan) is not the same as when you are brown (Latino) and somehow the police can tell the difference, I think. Ok, in any case, you are perfectly right, you have to have done something wrong....but the police tries to find that you did something very stupid, such as, like you didn't stop completely before turning on a corner, or if you didn't do a complete stop on a stop sign, or if you didn't put on your blinks before turning left, or if your windshield has a little crack. Ok, this means that you should be looking over those minor details when you go out in your car. we are in war now again for some stupid president who is killing his own people. My prayers are with the Libyan people too. By the way...now we are not going to only have the treath of the illegal immigrants, also we will have a treath of radiation contamination coming from Japan. God bless the world!!! |

Sandy, my sons and one of my cousins have been accused of being Mexican. My daughter was often mistaken for Mexican by Mexicans. It's the Native American blood we have. I am not normally quite as dark because my dad was a red headed Englishman and I got some of his skin coloring but my mothers black hair and dark eyes. Yes, I agree that our world is going through one of the most difficult times in my life time as far as natural disasters. The wars have been going on for ever and it seems that as soon as one war begins to wind down another one starts. I pray for our country and our world too. |

Yes, many Mexicans have the indigenous blood, and some are mixed with European blood, so I can see how if you have some American Indian blood you may be mistaken for a Mexican. Interesting!!! Yeah, the skin color is unique, beautiful I may say....that is why Americans spend so much money trying to get that kind of tan, but they can't. Yeah, I hope this war ends soon and that the Afghans get trained so we can get out of there soon enough. |

Immigration essay sparks anger at Rollins College The Orlando Sentinel, March 25, 2011 http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2011-03-2... Jamie Pizzi, a freshman at Rollins College, said she never meant to come across as racist or hateful in the opinion piece she wrote for the campus newspaper last week. But the essay that's sharply critical of immigrant children has spurred an outcry from some students and faculty. And while she's upset by all the negative attention — including nasty e-mails and comments left on The Sandspur website — she said she stands by her writing. 'I don't regret what I wrote,' Pizzi said.'I regret it was taken that way.' Pizzi's essay questions whether babies born in the United States to illegal immigrants should be automatically given U.S. citizenship. It's accompanied by a picture of a green alien that has apparently taken a guy's clothing and TV. 'These 'anchor babies,' as they are commonly referred, gain full citizenship from simply being born on American soil, and they are entitled to all the same benefits as you and I, including: free public school educations, financial aid for college and even Medicaid,' she writes. The strong reaction from faculty, students and others prompted a big gathering Thursday afternoon in the Bush Science Center auditorium. An estimated 200 to 300 people turned out — a significant crowd for the small private college in Winter Park, organizers said. Everyone took turns expressing themselves and sharing their views on free press and the role of a school newspaper. Although members of the paper's staff said they were shocked at the criticism the piece drew — two faculty members even blasted it in e-mails they distributed campus-wide, they said -- they were also glad so many people turned out for Thursday's discussion. Nick Zazulia, the editor of The Sandspur, said he'd like to see more students step forward to share their opinions in the paper. It needs a diverse range of views, he said. 'One of my great hopes is this will act as a catalyst for that,' he said. |

By Brad Cooper The Kansas City Star, March 24, 2011 http://www.kansascity.com/2011/03/23/2748503/... A major immigration bill similar to a controversial Arizona law suffered a potentially fatal blow Wednesday when the Kansas House refused to consider the measure. The House voted 84-40 to kill a last-ditch effort to bypass a committee where the bill had been bottled up by opponents for a couple of weeks. 'Today’s action makes it much less likely the bill will pass this session, but it doesn’t make the issue will go away,' said Secretary of State Kris Kobach, who helped write the bill. Kobach’s bill is the second piece of major immigration legislation that has run into roadblocks this session. Last week, a Senate committee killed a bill that would have denied in-state tuition for children of undocumented immigrants at Kansas universities, colleges and trade schools. The Kobach measure, described by critics as 'grossly broad,' would require police to check the legal status of those they suspect might be in the United States illegally. It also would require state and local governments and their contractors to run citizenship checks on new hires and require proof of citizenship for anyone seeking public aid. Supporters contended that the law was needed to deal with an estimated 90,000 illegal immigrants in Kansas. The problem was compounded because Kansas’ neighbors Nebraska, Oklahoma and Missouri have taken steps to stem the tide of illegal immigration. Failure to act would lead Kansas to become a magnet for illegal immigration, Kobach has argued. Opponents, however, maintain that the measure would stretch already overworked police, prove costly to businesses, and pose an administrative nightmare for workers who provide health services. Wyandotte County officials, for example, called the bill an unworkable, expensive, unfunded mandate that cities and counties couldn’t afford and were ill-equipped to carry out. The bill was never able to get out of the House Judiciary Committee, which was led by Rep. Lance Kinzer, the bill’s co-author. The Olathe Republican said he was disappointed with the outcome. 'We’re certainly not giving up on the issue,' Kinzer said.'Frankly, we’ll continue to look for opportunities to advance the debate, but the alternatives at this stage are pretty narrow.' Some lawmakers said Wednesday that recent comments made by Republican Rep. Virgil Peck about shooting illegal immigrants left little interest for moving ahead. 'We might have considered a far more moderate immigration bill … but once those vicious comments that Virgil Peck made, I think the appetite to work into a good bill just was gone,' said Pat Colloton, a Leawood Republican who opposed the bill. Kinzer pinned part of the defeat on opposition that included some local chambers of commerce and agricultural groups. 'Their opposition, I think, was not founded on the realities of the contents of this bill, but instead a blanket opposition to any effort to deal with the issue of illegal immigration,' he said. In other action Wednesday: *The Senate passed a bill that would require voters to present an ID when they cast a ballot at the polls. The bill now goes back to the House to consider changes made by the Senate. *The Senate passed by voice vote a bill that would restrict abortions performed after 22 weeks of gestation because of fetal pain. The bill must return to the House for final approval. *The Senate passed a bill to require parental consent for abortions provided to minors. Both parents would have to give consent, unless they are separated or a judge signs a waiver. The bill must go back to the House for final approval. |

I found this op ed piece in my local newspaper and I decided to post it to see what you guys think? I personally agree with both sides so I am confused. On the one hand, it is not right for the people in Libya to be massacred by their own president (that is what I understand happened and that is why we are supporting the rebels)...right? On the other hand, we are broke, no doubt about that. Nobody is mentioning the oil though. Is this again about oil? Or about people? http://www.theeagle.com/letters/Letters-for-A... Libya is no danger to U.S., so why bomb it? Many people initially looked up to Barack Obama and were eager to see what additions, changes and improvements could be done to help make this country better. I'm not so sure, however, that he's turning out to be the person many expected him to be. The budget cuts might have bewildered some, but it's perfectly understandable that reducing the $14.2 trillion deficit is something that should not be put off any longer, and the public is doing its best to keep itself afloat. With that being said, why did President Obama decide to get involved with Libya? Why, with the massive budget deficiency, is the United States government pouring more money into military resources? Has the government forgotten that the United States is basically broke? Apparently so, because even though there is no more money left for the necessary public expenditures, there will always be money for the 124 tomahawk missiles, priced at more than $1 million each, that the United States fired at Libya. Going into Libya is just going to tighten the noose around our wallets, and I just can't understand it. Why get involved with another foreign country? Aren't Iraq and Afghanistan enough already? Libya hasn't put us in any immediate danger, so why bomb it? The United States shouldn't try to solve everybody's problems, especially when there are problems right here in our own country. So maybe the Obama Administration should look into that foreign policy again, because if the ignorance continues, then the increased cuts on education, social welfare and Medicare will put more Americans in a situation that is just as unfortunate as that of a Libyan's. The Los Angeles Times, April 7, 2011 http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2011/04... Mexican sea smugglers appear to be ramping up their efforts to land illegal immigrants and drugs on California beaches, with U.S. border agents foiling at least five smuggling attempts in the first five days of this month. In one day alone, April 4, authorities from the multi-agency Maritime Unified Command seized three vessels, one of them an abandoned panga near Dana Point with 740 pounds of marijuana on board, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials. Authorities that day also seized a 16-foot pleasure craft near San Diego’s Shelter Island carrying four illegal immigrants, and intercepted a boat off Del Mar with 12 illegal immigrants on board. Three other men on that fishing vessel were charged with human smuggling. On April 1, border agents arrested six illegal immigrants after their Bayliner pleasure craft landed ashore at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas. On April 5, a U.S. Coast Guard cutter intercepted a boat 20 miles off La Jolla carrying 16 Mexican nationals, two of whom were charged with alien smuggling. Smugglers have taken to the high seas in response to increased enforcement on land. Border authorities have expanded the Maritime Unified Command to Orange County, but the recent surge may be a sign that enforcement efforts are not deterring smugglers. The smuggling groups charge immigrants as much as $6,000 to take them from isolated launching spots near Rosarito Beach and Ensenada to Southern California beaches. The rickety vessels, carrying as many as 20 people, have at times broken down in high seas, and at least two immigrants have drowned. |
