Corporations love the cheap labor and that is why Bush has been reluctant to do anything about this issue. Even Republicans in the House and Senate are split between the corporatists wing and the anti-immigration wing. Its a true right wing dilemma.

We need to create areas to allow people to go through the legal process of immigration, not cut them down before they set foot in the country.
The process to-day is elitist, expensive and inadequate to the needs of this country and serves only the interests of overpriced union workers.

How many people do you think can afford to live in the US for a year before it becomes legal for them to work?
Answer me that one.

I am against illegal immigration myself.

When the INS quits being the Homeland Security Bitch and has a complete remodeling, then your problems with illegal immigrants will decrease dramatically.
Joe, Legal immigration from one country to another begans at an embassy or consulate in the country of origin. Where would we create these areas you speak of, who would provide for the immigrants while waiting, what would their morale be like? To answer your question about how long could someone live in the U.S. without working...well it depends how soon they get on welfare! Much of this talk of honest, hard working men is not quite right. More and more entire families are crossing the border. Most men do find work, while the mother stays home with the kids and daddy's pay isn't enough for them. Yet somehow I manage to notice and note the illegals driving new Chevys, dress fairly nicely, and still refuse to learn the English language - but that's another turn on this issue. The welfare rolls are replete with illegal immigrants...thus the U.S. taxpayer pays for them to live here. Wanna adopt one, two or 12 million? Well, you have.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say about INS.

If you do a criminal act, say...cross the U.S. boarder, I would call them criminals.

GMAC is not providing car loans to undocumented workers. These people you see are either legal, or they are driving company vehicles.

INS - Immigration and Naturalization Service.

It has become apparent to me that you don't know much about what you are talking about because I am a legal working immigrant here and I'm not entitled to Welfare or any unemployment check.
I have gone through the entire process and it is not over yet...not while they can squeaze hundreds of dollars at a time for one document or another.
I understand processing fees but certain amounts are truly exorbitant.

Talking about the INS is extremely relevant to this discussion because I am talking about solving a big part of the problem right from the start.

As for immigrant visas from embassies:

"Applicants for employment based immigrant visas, who believe they are entitled to immigrant status based on proposed employment in the United States, must have an approved Form I-140 from the Immigration and Naturalization Service. Prior to receiving such approval, applicants must obtain Department of Labor certification that there are no qualified workers available in the United States to perform the proposed type of employment. "

Now how do you propose anybody in an emergency situation to feed their family to go through all the bullshit from the embassy to get a job as a street cleaner or similar?

Tech companies will bother to bring this or that foreign individual and will help sponsor his work visa but only for the duration of their contract and then off you go.

The law for the highly skilled positions doesn't work the same way for the unskilled positions.

GMAC IS NOT the only way to finance a vehicle. The man that just completed painting my house is an illegal alien (found out AFTER he completed the job) drives a new Chevy with all the whistles and bells. Nice guy, good paint job, but he's still an illegal alien - too bad. This is the kind of person I would like to see get citizenship... He even speaks english.

May I add that a foreign student in the US cannot work legally in the US, meaning the student has to be self sufficient (i.e. parents supporting the student from abroad).

Correction: They sold them to the Portuguese who owned the ships who in turn sold them to the plantation owners in North America decades after slavery had been abolished in South America.

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

My point is that with financing, one has to provide all sorts of info. Before approval, they will do a TRW check etc. If cash was paid or a third party is involved, thats a different story. I was responding to a post that made it sound as if illegals are all driving new vehicles.

And... what is their other option? To stay, face responsibility for their part in the mess that Mexico has become, and try to make it better?

How about trying that before trying to turn America into Mexico. American tax-payers have no responsibility to shoulder the burden of their failure. It sounds cold-blooded, but it's true. Illegal immigrants didn't pay into this system, but they want to take everything out. It's as simple as that and has nothing to do with race, or slavery, or anything else.
I agree with you Mr. "M" it is not our fault it is theres why do we have to clean up there dirty work let there government figure it out!

The statement I made is accurate. No mention of whom sold them into slavery was made in my comments. The bottom line is that no one can equate deporting illegal aliens who are criminals and a burden to society to that of Slavery and or the Japanese or Mexican interment camps; and or the Chinese labor camps. Before you call any one stupid please look into the mirror and then ask yourself why you don't even have a GED! Do some research!!!!!!!!!!

You are lucky this is censored or I would really let you know what I think of you! Lets just say that stupid just wouldn't do it for me!!!!!

Ya baby! We comin to take back what is ours! Be prepared, we are already the majority and there aint no stopping us now. Law or no law, were here to stay. This law get enacted, and your legal system (which is already backloaded) is going to be swamped and leave communities fighting to find ways to pay for it.
