<quoted text>Right. Just as we should forget the Holocaust since that's all over with and Hitler has been dead a long assed time, and we should pretend that Pearl Harbor was never bombed or that we didn't imprison Japanese Americans. We should not remember turning points in history that served to fuel transformation and change. We should just "get on with it" and not remind ourselves of how it came to be that we were made to pay attention to injustice or disparity and just how far those opposed were willing to go to squelch human rights and equal opportunity. I suppose we shouldn't acknowledge women's suffrage and how women got the right to vote as well either, huh? I mean....after all....we can vote now.
Seriously. If people of color want to commemorate turning points in history that focus on their long struggle for equal rights, they should keep it on the down low and not impose that news on white folks.
Sheesh."
"The legacy of four little girls
Fifty years have passed since a bomb stopped the old sanctuary clock in Birmingham's 16th Street Baptist Church, locking in a moment that would change a nation.
The four girls killed in the blast have been honored as civil rights martyrs, their names etched in history books...
...It was 10:22 a.m. on Sunday, September 15, 1963, when a stack of dynamite hidden beneath an outside staircase by Ku Klux Klansmen left a massive hole and crater in one side of the church. The blast blew out windows, filled the place with dust and debris, and destroyed a ladies restroom in the basement -- killing the four girls and injuring nearly two dozen people.
Even before the bombing, the church -- in the heart of the city's black community -- had been a backdrop to the civil rights movement. It had drawn high-profile visitors, including the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. It became a perfect spot for meetings, sitting catty-corner from Kelly Ingram Park, a staging ground for marches. Chilling photographs of young people being attacked with fire hoses and by dogs show the church steps in the background.

That's right freebird.

I was responding to NTR's post, not yours and my only comment was a reply to her reference about people that didn't want us to remember certain historical events, so I still have to ask, if you're not one of those people why are you so bent out of shape over my one sentence reply to her?

California Drought Causes “Water Wars” Among Residents

Someone stole 20,000 gallons of water from an elementary school in Bridgeville, CA over Labor Day weekend — the second water theft in the rural area over the last several weeks.

Another water tank in the area was drained of 20,000 gallons in July, leaving 330 people briefly without water. That tank provides water to another elementary school, a fire station, the post office and a state park campground.

Humboldt County, a remote northern California region dominated by cattle ranches and marijuana farms, has been hit especially hard by the drought afflicting California and other Western states. Because of virtually nonexistent snowpack over the winter, normally robust rivers are running extremely low, while rainfall has lagged 25 to 50 percent below normal since January.

Both you and fake spirit think you can spin your flavor of perversion without consequence.. How sorely wrong you both are and were... You both have reacted with threats of violence when you had your azzes served to you... LOL
What you accuse me of is a lie. What Jax says you did is the truth. Nobody asked you to advise on how to lure and trap little boys for molesting; no one asked you for a play-by-play on your sexual assaults. I've seen you describe things like forced oral and anal sex between men, and various vulgarities involving your "rooster" and women who would not support your opinions, but this really shocked many of us.
You tried to accuse me of being a pedophile, but you did yourself in by spending so much time describing the rape of a child, and explaining how it's not that hard to lure and detain these little boys. Why the graphic detail, GR? By trying to attribute those thoughts to me, you showed us all what a sick, perverted monster you are.

You have a skewed view of how the "rich" keep their money. They don't stuff their mattresses with $100 bills or have vaults full of gold & precious gems. They mostly INVEST what they have. When they invest, they create jobs. That's their "contribution". It's still in the economy helping "ordinary" folks.(The rich that spend and/or invest foolishly soon become ordinary folks themselves.) Most of these "rich" are experts at whatever field they are engaged in. Their government counterparts are mostly wannabe's, resentful copycats and failures. Some are just idealistic bone heads.
You want the government to take more money because you believe government will spend (or invest) it more wisely. I think history show us that is not the case. Government, even in a democracy, is still just people. Often times it's the worst sort of people. Under the best of circumstance you might get the mediocre. Anyone with real capability will not be drawn to government (except in despotic regimes, where they use their abilities for evil). History supports this notion too.
We are a rich nation because of free market capitalism. Period. The more we stray from that, the poorer we will get. I'm not advocation 100% capitalism, just that we've swung too far away from the ideal median point. We've already squeezed all the excess "fat" there is using taxation. We're now cutting into muscle and bone. Fifty years of trying to redistribute income has not had one success. The rate of poverty has not budged even one percent. Government can't do it because they are inherently inefficient, attract the least talented and quickly become despondent & corrupt. History tells us this too.
No Utopian dream world invented by man has ever been anything other than a failure. Not one of them. Some have been absolute horrors, making the Inquisition, the Black Plague and any other slaughter you can name seem tame by comparison. I don't think we'll go that route, probably just another Great Depression. But who knows? It caught some otherwise cultured & wise societies (China, Russia, Germany, etc) unawares too.
I do agree with Obama on one narrow point. We are not so "exceptional" that we cannot repeat the mistakes others have made, including some of the really awful ones. When you create a government that provides you with everything you need, you also create one that can take away everything you need.
I disagree with you about how the rich handle their money. Over time, they have used their money to buy policies that afford them more tax shelters and tax credits not available to the non-investor class of salaried and wage workers in America. Of course, we could see that clearly with Mitt Romney and the "one year's tax returns" he was willing to display. Although Mitt indicated he'd be forthcoming, we saw clearly that he didn't claim all the deductions to which he was entitled or he would have lowered his tax liability to about 14% if memory serves me.

That shielded more than 40% of their annual profits from U.S. taxes, though it left the money off-limits for paying dividends, buying back shares or making investments in the U.S. The 60 companies were chosen for the analysis because each of them had held at least $5 billion offshore in 2011.(cont.)

The Pentagon Helped Pay for Gas on These Billionaires' Private Jets
http://valleywag.gawker.com/google-execs-have...
The Wall Street Journal reports that "the U.S. Department of Defense ended a little-known arrangement that for years allowed the tech billionaires to travel on sharply discounted jet fuel bought from the Pentagon"—meaning Google was paying $3.74 per gallon while other companies paid double at private airfields. The entire deal, quietly scrapped after congressional pressure from Sen. Chuck Grassley, was a little governmental quid pro quo:

Like I said earlier, what he posted about molesting little boys wasn't just disturbing, it was alarming.

He walked us step by step through the how-to from the seduction, to the abduction and finally the molestation of what he described as little boys.

He used such graphic and vivid language that he even included such details as where the child molester should place their tongue on the little boys....well, you read it and I'm not going to repeat that filth, but it was the most bizarre, disturbing and (unfortunately) revealing thing I have ever seen posted on any internet forum.

If the man had a brain in his head he would just say it was a mistake to have posted that and avoid the subject like the plague, but that's not exactly GR's style.

The more he talks about it and tries to blame other people for what his own tortured mind produced the worse it looks for him.

Oh Look, There Goes the Deficit
http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2013/09...
A funny thing happened on the way to the debt-ceiling battle: a big chunk of our annual budget quietly melted away.

In fact, we’ve long argued that we live in a Golden Age of Deficit Reduction. The August Treasury Monthly statement, released Thursday, and a Congressional Budget Office report released earlier this week, show just how far we’ve come in the space of a year.

during the Golden Years of America(the 50s thru the mid-60s), a new phrase was coined: juvenile delinquent.

in 1955, there was a little movie called 'The Blackboard Jungle'. it was a story about lost kids(boys in particular) in the inner-cties(NYC in particular) and their anti-social behaviours.

also, there was a stage play, and later a movie, called "West Side Story'. ditto the theme...

now those same concerns and anti-social behaviours permeate almost every city/town/village in America.

wonder what happened during these past 60 yrs to cause that?

maybe the systematic erosion of Traditional American Values? like marriage and parenting and all manner of SELF-responsibilities? like putting one's own food/clothing/roof on one's own tables/bodies/selves?

wonder what caused that?

increased racism? SINCE Jim Crow days? nah, I don't think that's it...

segregated schooling? SINCE forced busing, etc? nah, I don't think that's it...

isolationism and xenophobia? SINCE the first Amenesty and the advent of diversity and political correctness? nah, I don't think that's it...

malnutrition? SINCE the Great Society and food stamps? nah, I don't think so...

unchecked diseases of the mind/thinking processes? SINCE Medicare and Medicaid? nah, I don't think so...

any OTHER ideas on the causes for our decline?

anyone?
