On the Gang of Eight Proposal

Mickey Kaus and Mark Krikorian have already acutely analyzed the new Gang of Eight’s “comprehensive immigration-reform” proposal; I will simply embroider on their observations. As Kaus has pointed out, the proposal is tantamount to an immediate, unconditional amnesty, and thus will lead to the same moral hazard — attracting further illegal immigration — as every previous amnesty in the U.S. and Europe. Nothing of consequence to an intending illegal alien distinguishes the “probationary status” that will be granted upon payment of a fine and back taxes from full-fledged legal status. It is of no import that a probationer will not be immediately eligible to vote. After the 1986 amnesty, very few newly legal Hispanics sought to become American citizens. Only Proposition 187 spurred a slight uptick in that direction.

It is far better that they work here documented then for them to remain here undocumented. Most have been here from 5 to 30 yrs. Stayed out of trouble and worked while taking care of their families. Get them on the books. Per the plain they won't be able to get their green cards for 8yrs. Then it will be another 5yrs before any citizenship can be recieved by any of them. In the meantime they will have temporary legal presense and a work visa. If that is maintained correctly they will have a chance to work their way up the ladder. That will also give the Government more money in visa renewals to go towards other things. Perhaps dealing with the problems on the border or tracking those that stay past their visa.

Running out of food for the children isn't a good thing. I would think that making it known that your coming can allow the cafeteria know to make another meal.
It doesn't look like she read that part of your post.
I really can't say if she did or not, and I certainly can't figure out why she got ticked at me, but that's okay, it's a new day. No problem. Schools have an awesome responsiblity to do what's best for the kids, and do encourage reasonable parental interaction, but those parents need to understand that the slightest thing can throw a reasonably productive day into a tizzy when things like a child not getting the food he/she ordered occurs, or drooling over his/her nieghbor's fast food. I have given up some of my lunch to try to lessen a child's distress. We all have done that when the need arose! You know, sometimes new folks come on these threads loaded for bear, until they get their feet wet. I know I did. Some of us change and grow and move on. With time, this should all be smoothed out. At least I hope so.

I still have a problem with that, because why didn't those tthat were heere 30 years take advantage of the '86 amnesty? Birthright citizennship has to be addressed, as Rubio says they can't get welfare, etc., but their American born kids will be able to add more with their entitlements, so somebody isn't being honest with us.

Tell me what the heck you're talking about and I would be more than willing to discuss it like reasonable adults.

They had a bad night, and today doesn't look to be much better. They launched a poster sacrifice program, but since he was a new character anyway, it's no biggie. Somebody had to jump off the cliff. Oaky will be back - maybe as Dokie. Who knows?

Late last night, somebody from headquarters attempted to come in and assist a dysfunctional poster who summarily dismissed that kind interventionist as being a "libtard". LOL The absence of logic or even a pause to consider has probably caused Topix to wonder WTF goes on over here.

Anyhow, that brings us to today with the lunatic fringe in super bad moods.:-)

The reality is that they woke up and Obama is still President, Immigration Reform is heating up and not in any kind of acceptable way, since it looks like they're not all going home (I know...we've tried in vain to explain that), and none of the moderate or liberal posters has been driven away or intimidated - much less impressed by the vulgar troll idiots. I suppose this means they're back to plotting and strategizing.

Last I heard there was a new plan to link a path to citizenship with increased border security.

Anybody catch Obama's speech today. I was busy and I was wondering if he signed on to the proposal the bipartisan group unveiled yesterday or not.

I disagree, the most important advancement was the brave work done in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and the rest of the free world. Ending 'DADT' is just propaganda.

I'm against turning our military into a social experiment. They have one standard; victory. Serving as openly gay doesn't impress me; honorable service impresses.

Dear judge-it troll. The theft of tax dollars from taxpayers and the funneling of those tax dollars up to corporations (BANKS) is not off topic. We have a right to expect our tax contributions are used to benefit those we intend to benefit - NOT the BANKS or other corporations. That is what being fiscally conservative means - expecting frugal spending, not further using tax dollars for CORPORATE welfare.
If you read the article (I'm sure you didn't), you'd have found that some of the states, themselves, have bought into this bank card program rather than cut paper checks or making the set up of bank accounts easy for those unemployment benefits.

Uhmmm...Sodomy is not a war crime. Wrong term.

Gay and lesbian Americans have always served but they have not always served openly and if they were found out they were dishonorably discharged.

With the repeal of DADT they can serve without fear and with their Honor intact so that's strike number two.

Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya had nothing to do with advancing the equality of American citizens (which was what my comment was about), our military has almost always led the way in social change when it came to the advancement of equality (look up the integration of African-Americans in the armed forces) and I served with honor so you can be impressed and kiss my bu*t at the same time.

Oh, and before I forget. I still remember you from over on the gay threads a year or two ago claiming you were Active Duty posting from Germany before you decided to drop that charade so let's keep it real okay?

Have a nice one.

Teddy take a look at the Dream Act. The Government takes a age limit they have taken from out of the air. Leaving all those over the age limit out of luck. Within thier legalization plans they always seem to put in pitfalls that just leave some out of the equation. That is why many of those that have been here for many years are left out. That's why they continue to be here without documentation.

I'm reluctant to answer;-) But, you can probably tell by how many nasty judge-its I get in the next few minutes.

What do you think of the President's immigration proposal? Personally, I don't see anything in these proposals that does one thing for the American and legal immigrant workers they replaced, and what in these formulas is designed to discourage others from coming to wait for their turns? Securing the border(s) only prevents 60% of the problem - even if you believe we can successfully block border jumpers, and I don't think we can in the first place. What's the plan for th 40% who enter on legal visas and never go home again? Last, this TGW program for jobs Americans "just won't do" is also disingenuous. That guarantees wages will stay in the toilet, because Americans just won't do jobs that pay less than a survivable wage - if they have any choice. If not, they're still competing for a race to the lowest possible wage.

At any rate, I'm not happy because it's not very different than we did last time, and now there are at least 11-12 more people here illegally. What's going to stop that from happening again going forward?
