Mr. Mayor...I'm sure the voters will
remember your "cards" come election,
when all the banks scam 'em out of any money they may have deposited in the banks.

Immigration has always been an issue in America. That is how America got where it is today. From the days of the Italians, Jews, Irish, German and before them the WASPs.

Now its time for the Hispanics. You can't stop them. 10 years ago they were only in Texas, Florida and California. Now they are everywhere.

Most of the consumer products now have labels in English and Spanish. The old American family is not having babies; their relative population keeps declining. Meanwhile the Hispanic community has alot of babies and they are immigrating too.

Bush won his first term because of Florida. Alot of Hispanics in Florida voted for Bush. Look at Hartford, its got a Hispanic mayor.

My point is... get used to it. You can complain all you want but if the trends continue the US will become more Hispanic and soon your daughter will be marrying a Hispanic and have a Hispanic surname, and Hispanic babies.

Good it is about time the feds are doing there jobs . T ehy got to do that more and start throwing the illegals out of here . If companys need workers they have to find the ones on welfare and put them to work so we do not have to pay for them

These people are simple working class people who are here trying to make their lives and those of their families better. They take the jobs that we Americans are "too good" to do. They cook for us, clean out streets, do our laundry, mow our lawn, paint our walls, pay us rent to live in slum lord operated houses in Fair Haven, pay State income taxes and provide over $200 million to Social Security a Year and will NEVER EVER collect on-Read the New York Post-,the system is wrong, we need a way to keep the good people here and legal. Do you people even know how difficult it is to understand the system? Have you ever even tried to?
Can't the feds help New Haven with the childern who shoot each other, the drugs use and sales that cannot be controlled and the corruption? Why pick on people who add to our nation's wealth. Now we have at least one American child with no parents, who is going to take care of them? The State. Seems like it is Americans are the ones sucking on the welfare system, not immigrants.
Connecticut is losing young workers everyday. Who do you think will fill that gap?
Yes, they may be undocumented, however so you think they want to be? They want to live in fear of being arrested? FYI-A greencard only always someone to stay here and work. It does not allow them to vote or even collect goverment benefits. Why is it so hard to get one? Maybe if the system was more like it was 10 or even 20 years ago, we would not have the trouble we see today.

OKAY RAINBOW BRITE WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE!

These illegal aliens will become somehow "transitional". They will then continue working those undesirable jobs that we spoiled Americans won't work. Now the same morons that introduced this legislation will propose that their employers provide health care, better working conditions which they will get either through one of a few ways.

1)They will unionize, therefore defeating the purpose of those employers hiring cheap, easily intimidated help. 2)Their employers will have to provide the same and raise prices or go out of business. 3)The state and federal governments will provide all the benefits and WE will foot the bill.

Any way you look at it WE lose. Those employing these illegal aliens will look for more unregistered cheap help and the cycle continues, but now we have another segment of unemployed people that we will have to support.

The state doesn't want to stop people from shooting one another because the politicians are afraid of disenfranchising a voting segment of the population, so they propose gun control rather than thug control.

How do any of these people pay taxes and participate in Social Security when they are paid in cash, under the table? They are illegal!

WOOO HOOO its about time someone did something. You know those jobs that they had will be filled in a few days and mostly with REAL AMERICANS.. They need to come down to South Gerogia and get rid of a bunch of em here. We got plenty to spare. They can come clean out my apartment complex and get about 50 or so.

You know what's difficult, DIFFICULT? Reading someone who has no clue as to what they are talking about.
From the Department of Homeland Security....
"In 2006, a total of 1,266,264 persons became LPRs(Legal Permanent Residents) of the United States .The majority of new LPRs (65 percent) already lived in the United States when they were granted lawful permanent residence. Nearly two-thirds (63 percent) were granted permanent residence based on a family relationship with a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States. The leading countries of birth of new LPRs were Mexico (14 percent), China (7 percent) and the Philippines (6 percent).

1,266,000 in 2006 alone. 14% from Mexico alone (177,277). Its not that hard to do it LEGALLY. It's just harder than doing it ILLEGALLY.

And a green card does allow you to collect benefits. It makes you a Legal Permanent Resident.

Hey genius, do you know something everyone else doesn't know. Did native americans evolve here? Did they crawl from the primordial ooze and learn to walk upright here? If not even they migrated here, probably over the landbridge that is now under the Bering Straits. Try using an original thought instead of the regurgutated pabulum taught in college.

What you are saying is we are all immigrants or descendants of immigrants. So after a few generations, somehow that entitle us to tell the new comers they are not welcomed?

Yeah, I know it's crazy. It's like when you build a house and move into it and just because you're there for a few years that somehow entitles you to keep other people from moving in.

How many illegal aliens do you have living in your house now?

I am 3rd Generation German Immigrant. Its one thing to come over and do it Legally. Its another to do it illegally come over work for a while and then go back. My appartment complex is full of families that will come here work for a few years and then head back to mexico with large sums of money and live high on the hog. If that was the case they should have stayed in mexico and petitioned their governement for better rights.

nope it entitles us as americans to say get your greencard the right way and not illegally enter this country, everyones welcome when they follow the laws that are set forth,if not then none of us should have any conequences for any illegal activity we would do
What is the right way? If they wait a few years, they will get their green card via presidential pardon. There are already multiple pardons for illegal so maybe this is the legal precedent set forth for them? And once they are legal aliens they are no longer subject of ridicule by folks on this thread and in fact can write about kicking the illegal dirty bags out lest they take advantage of our welfare generosity?
