It is true they are racially profiling Hispanic people. Why would they stop them for any reason at all? Why would they get ARRESTED for a broken headlight, etc. This is just their EXCUSE to arrest them for any reason to cover up their 'plan' to deport them. FACE IT! ADMIT IT! Have the GUTS to admit it!! They are using excuses that 'we' are breaking the law! They can't handle the truth that 40% of Irving is Hispanic!

Wow. They, like anyone else, are stopped for a broken headlight. They, like anyone else, are asked for a driver's license. If they, like anyone else, produce a driver's license they are given a ticket and go on about their lives. If they, like anyone else, can't produce a driver's license then they, like anyone else, are arrested.

Yep, sounds racist don't it? Being treated like anyone else that way!

If 40% of Irving is Hispanic then doesn't it make sense that a large number of arrests are Hispanics? Irving arrests an equivalent to about 10% of their population a year. I say an equivalent because not all of the arrestees live in Irving. According to the news stories, 1% of the equivalent of Irving's population has both committed a crime and gone to jail and is subject to deportation according to Immigration. All of those numbers are not Hispanics; Mexican, El Salvadorean, or otherwise. I'm not hearing any of the outrage about the people who have been deported by Immigration to Canada, Germany, Kenya, Zaire, Pakistan, India or anyone else since this program started. Doesn't someone want to stand up for the cause of all of those poor under-represented illegal immigrants? I guess it just isn't as popular to say police are racist because white people get arrested and go back to their countries, but what about the Africans and Asians?

The laws are finally being enforced. The more criminal aliens protest being arrested and deported for committing crimes the more American Citizens will be outraged at their behavior and demand that the laws be enforced. Irving is just the start.

you know 6 years ago i decided to join the army leaving my hometown of 21 years to participate in making the country a brighter place for all people from all walks of life by defending my country. i do it with pride and honor, nothing makes me more happy. after september 11th i had to have been one of the first to ask my commander to be sent overseas to defeant the horrible persons responsible for the crimes committed against us on our land. i went not once not twice but three times (currently on my third tour) - i have no regrets none whatsoever. when i read of what was going on in irving, my hometown, i reflected for a bit. it brought me to tears. you know its amazing how myself and my brothers and sisters put our lives on the line so that our families back home can live in peace and happiness. and those who are in my country illeagally, well yes it is a problem that must be dealt with but not by de-humanizing one another. There is no hispanic representation whatsoever on the city council. this is about race - no doubt, im ashamed to be from irving. Irving votes for city council members based on place and not sectors or districts perhaps because the sitting council members are aware that would mean that a hispanic would eventually run and win. irving has forever been a breeding ground for racism or maybe classism is a better term. but i dont care how white you are or how brown you are or how much money you are worth makes no difference to me we are all human we are all the same none is better than the other and everybody deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.

In response to Irving's comment, If you truly believe that is all that is going on here, well I can appreciate the simplicity of your mind, and in fact, if EVERYONE, politicians, public servants, civilians and all the like, were also simple minded, there probably wouldn't be any real conflicts. The unfortunate truth is, politics and the well being of the "Superior Race" (who ever that was at that point) has always played a part in Our Country's History whether we want to admit or not and in order to accomplish those separation of "rights over other's", several, or you can say, 100's of thousands or even millions of illegal and immoral crimes were committed and there has never been any type of restitution like there has been applied to other groups here in the US. The good thing is, we've come along way now and we are definitely in a better place. Their is a reason why I bring this up, I honestly can appreciate the efforts any Anti-crime program that is set up to improve and provide security for the lives of my parents, my brothers, and children. Improper and/or illegal behavior that interferes with the security and well being of others should NOT be tolerated, no matter where you live or what race you are. But in such cases where individuals while having a barbecue have gotten harassed and discriminated against based upon their color of their skin is simply un-American. Fairness is the key word here, why are they just targeting predominantly Hispanic areas, there are more serious crimes happening everyday that affects the future of all of OUR children and if the future of Irving is what the agenda really is, they should start focusing on those crimes. Crimes such as: Child neglect, Child Abuse, and Domestic Violence. Starting up some type of program that not only reprimands these criminals but will also provide mandatory Parenting Classes. Just pulling weeds is useless; the root is the problem. Now I'm sure the “Braniacs” that have come up with the current "anti-immigrant program" can come up with something, but then again there probably wouldn't be any money in it. I'm sure someone is making money from those whole deal and instead of helping, they are just making the future of our children worse by breaking up their families, and in the bigger scheme of things, it WILL end up effecting all of US.

To: "A Soldier from Irving, Tex"

I sincerely say "THANK YOU" for serving our country and appreciate the sacrifices you are making.

I think the problem most AMERICANS are having is the strain the ILLEGALS are having on the AMERICAN way of life. The country you are fighting for is not going to be that same country. It's become what's illegal for an AMERICAN citizen isn't the same for others. Most AMERICANS, brown, black, white, red, yellow, green, etc. are AGAINST -- ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. WE welcome people who come to this country LEGALLY, and want to make themselves better and contribute to this country.
Too often, that's not the case.
There are problems with healthcare, gangs, the school systems, the list is growing.
I understand you are fighting in another country for all of us here. Unfortunately, those people who are here illegally--do not support this country--it's all about what they think they deserve and about the country they left--Mexico. I don't think the Mexican government is helping with the war or support for you and the rest of the troops over there.

GOD BLESS YOU AND STAY SAFE AND COME HOME SOON!!

It's not simplistic, it's what's actually happening. I don't know what was going through the minds of the citizens that petitioned the City Council to start this program. I'm not them. I don't know the minds of the City Council either. I'm not them. I'm sure that some have had racial motivations behind their actions. But criminals are being arrested by the Irving Police and LATER are being found to be from a different country and investigated by Immigration. That is not a racially motivated action.

As for the public intoxication round-up, people weren't just rounded up for being outside barbecuing in the parking lot of apartment complexes and certainly not for being Hispanic. People were arrested for being too drunk to stand in the parking lot of apartment complexes. The apartment complexes in question are high crime areas that police and the fire department are constantly having to respond to for problems.

I used to live about a block away from the Villa Martinque apartments, one of the problem complexes that actually shut down as a result of pressure from Code Enforcement and the Police. How many times did that place burn up? At least twice, and both times it was about a year before they got around to rebuilding. With people living in the non-burned sections of building the whole time. There were constant thefts from the Kroger across the street, daily, who would then run home to the apartments. Some places need intervention by local government to control problems that land lords aren't willing to control. When a land lord just wants a unit filled and doesn't care about anything else then people will go there who get passed out drunk in the parking lots. It will attract the drug trade and other crime. Why? Not because of any racial issue, but because the aparment complex will not force people out who are problems.

i understand whats happening in irving is not 100 percent right, but mexicans brought it upon them selves. yea in texas mexicans are mostly targeted to be checked out but duhh!!! were in texas and thats the most common race for immigrants. Im sure in other parts of america they target other races that are mostly common there, and immigrants wouldnt have this problem if they would of just got there freaking papers and came the right way just because your mexican doesnt make u special and to allow u to be here illegal. Theres thousands of other people that want to be in america but have to wait to get there papers, its not fair to the other thousands of other immigrants that have to wait and come the right way, and most of the mexicans just come on over, they know better than that and have no reason to get mad to get deported back home. being here illegal makes the rest of the economy suffer and tax money goes up, they want to be here but illegals dont want to pay for shit no taxes, and health care hell no!

Who are the true native inhabitants of Texas? Was it Native Indians, or decendants of the Spanish colonists?

First of all, I doubt you truly are Mexican, you made me laugh when I read your comment, and if you are, you must be "El Tio Tom". How've you been? I hope everything is going good for you, I wish you success in all that you do and please do continue motivating your people with those encouraging words. Talk to you later TIO.
