"Amid the malaise, a recent Gallup poll found that 60 percent of Americans believe the country needs a third party. That number is driven by the opinions of independent voters, but large percentages of Republicans and Democrats agree."

Fully agree: Both parties are hindering our nation from aspiring to be all it could be with the help of a failure at the helm.

How can it be otherwise?? Instead of having our lawmakers work for the betterment of the populace, they bicker and fight which in turn hurts the country.

A house divided against itself cannot stand.

You make a very good point.
Unity within our nation is the absolute worst enemy of either major party.
If "we the people" were to become unified by a third party, we would be beyond the control of either major political party. It is in both parties best interest to maintain this division and it is for purely selfish reasons only and not for the overall good of the people. It is their hidden and less talked about main mission and both parties are influenced greatly by foreign interests, none of which are good for "we the people" at all, IMO.
Here is a real good read in regards to unity and segregation.
Why does a Jew eat with the Aryan brotherhood?

This will give you a much better understanding of the chicanery committed by both sides for the eplicit purpose of control of a free people.

To maintain its dominance and relevance, any political party will do whatever it takes to keep that status. This includes making backroom deals, graft, and forgoing its core principles. It is just the nature of the beast.
Thank you for the link.

Need more than just a 3rd party to fix this democracy. Getting all the $$ out of dark money pacs and lobbying would be a start. Changing the winner take all rules would also help. And most importantly would be getting rid of the money election that takes place before the people's election.

Lawrence Lessig did a great talk about this on TED:

it appears theres a collision brewing ???, between capitalism and socalism..federal state and county government cant cope with it all.or write laws that benefit the whole ......... trying to cook a turkey for everyones wallet ,even if turkey noodle soup is the only affordable solution...a witches brew of serving the public..........Quintus Arrius: Now listen to me, all of you. You are all condemned men. We keep you alive to serve this ship. So row well, and live..........or so it seems
