if the Mexican ancestry population is rapidly integrating itself into an American–style modernity, why the hostility? Could it be that the center of power has shifted?

Is this what Tea Party adherents—predominately old, white, and Protestant—mean when they say they must take their (sic) country back? Strangely, isn’t the desire to take the country back in time similar to the recidivist goals of Islamic extremists?

Cracker and anyone else on his side is ignorant. You have no idea why people come here illegally. It costs about $200 American dollars per person just to get a passport and a visa not counting the cost of traveling to get them. That is equivalent to over 2000 pesos. In order for some one in Mexico to get that much money just to come visit for a short time, at 100 pesos a day, if they are lucky, and they have to pay 600 pesos for rent, plus they have say 2 kids, not to mention utilities, food, and every day necessities. It would take for ever to save that kind of money. Now lets say they are fortunate to save enough. They go to their interview, after paying for their visa up front and passport, because that is what they make you do, they get denied their visa. Do you think they get their money back? Let me tell you, they don't. The U.S. keeps their money. They have to go through the U.S. Consulate to come to the U.S. Later they find out that if they don't own land, a house, and have a good chunk of money in the bank they can't come. Does that seem right to you? if it does then you are an heartless animal and you would feel different if you were in that situation. Do you really think people would risk their lives to walk for 3 days in the hot sun with little water just because. other than a down payment, they don't have to pay the coyotes until they get to their destination. The coyotes will keep trying until they get across. Technically they already paid to be here, your Government is stealing from hard working people. Granted not all illegals deserve to be here, there are some who should be locked up and the key be thrown away, but have some compassion for those who are just trying to make a better life for themselves and their families. Coming here legally isn't anything like it used to be so don't give me that crap that so and so came here legally. Because even if you know of someone who came legally, I bet you that at least one of their immediate relatives came illegally in order for them to become legal, probably by force. Africans, Asians, even Mexicans. Do your research.

You guys talk about illegals being criminals, it is criminal to take money from people who are trying to do things the right way and tell them, "Well sorry you don't have enough money to come to the U.S., but thanks for the little bit you do have."

my country isn't heartless, were just taking a page out of the Mexican immigration law book. It's funny how you complain about this country, but forget to mention the fact that Mexican law says you have to be well off to gain citizenship,in other words if you're not rich you can't become a Mexican citizen, you don't see Americans mad about that, lmao
