You hit the nail in the head. All it would take is for one gay couple to apply for a marriage license and be denied. That would give the couple "standing" to sue the State for discrimination against a protected class.
The Court will allow the States to regulate marriage, but cannot do so along the lines of gender, sexual preference or any of the other protected classes.
Namaste mi amego. I do believe they have won.
I hope all is going wonderfully for you and yours.

674,569 people signed one of five petitions on the White House website asking that Westboro Baptist Church be declared a Hate Group...and all they got was this stupid GIF.

This rather understated animation displays the locations (by zip code) of those who signed the petition and voiced their objection to Westboro's hateful activities.

According to a statement released by the White House, "the federal government doesn't maintain a list of hate groups".

President Obama signed a law restricting demonstrations at military funerals in response to Westboro's infamous "God hates fags" protests at the burial services of some of our nations fallen heroes and has referred to these activities as "reprehensible".

The Government Is Snooping Through Your Snail Mail

In addition to the email and phone metadata the U.S. government is tracking, the feds also have an eye on your regular old snail mail, which is actually a "treasure trove of information," according to a former FBI agent who used to work with the Mail Isolation Control and Tracking program, as it's called...

..the mail surveillance program is even worse from a privacy advocates standpoint because there is zero oversight. "You just fill out a form," Wedick explains. The U.S. Postal Service grants or denies the request without any judicial overview — there's not even a secret court involved.

US Forces Bolivian President to Make Emergency Landing

Venezuela, Ecuador, Argentina, Uruguay and Suriname have joined Bolivia in condemning the forced landing of Bolivian President Evo Morales' plane as he was returning from a diplomatic mission in Russia and are demanding both an explanation and an apology from the leaders of France, Italy, Portugal and Spain for what they have termed a violation of national sovereignty and international law.

President Morales' plane was denied permission to fly through the airspace of the European powers after the United States became suspicious that NSA whistleblower Snowden may have been onboard and pressured the Europeans to deny clearance.
Morales' was forced to make an emergency landing in Austria, where he was confined for 14 hours in direct violation of international law, while Austrian authorities demanded that they be allowed to search his plane.

Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa said (Thursday) that he and the other Latin American leaders were offering their full support to Bolivia in this incident.
President Correa called the forced landing an act an aggression against the Americas and went on to say, "We're not going to accept that in the 21st century there's first, second and third rate countries. The leaders and authorities in Europe have to take a lesson in history and understand that we're not 500 years behind. This Latin America of the 21st century is independent, dignified and sovereign."

After landing in Austria, the Spanish Ambassador, along with embassy staff arrived and demanded that they be allowed to search President Morales' plane. Their "request" was denied.
Argentine President Cristina Fernandez demanded an apology for the incident saying, "I'm asking those who violated the law in calm but serious manner, to take responsibility for the errors made, it's the least they can do. To apologize for once in their life, to say they're sorry for what they've done."

In a separate statement Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said that his nation stands in full support of Morales in this incident and referred to the actions of the European governments as "unheard of", but urged Latin American leaders to remain calm.
France has issued a formal apology while Spain insists that President Morales' plane was not denied permission to land in their territory, although they have not denied that permission to cross their airspace was denied.

Embassy staff in Bolivia cancelled Independence Day celebrations.
In Santa Cruz, protest slogans were painted on the doors of the American consulate.

The United States has refused to comment on whether or not it pressured European allies to force the landing of President Morales plane.
Morales is threatening to close the U.S. Embassy in Bolivia.

----------

On a perosnal note, let's be honest with ourselves, if any of these latin American countries had forced Air Force One to make an emergency landing (for any reason) we would be at war right now.

What makes our government think it is above the law?

Zimmerman trial...

At one time George Zimmerman wanted to be a U.S. Marshal.

As part of an assignment he wrote an essay that started by explaining that he wanted to be a U.S. Marshal so he could chase fugitives and make sure they didn't get away.

Goes to "state of mind".

After killing Trayvon Martin, Zimmerman said that he wouldn't do anything different and it was all part of God's plan.

If you ask me, God's plan at this point is for the fat b*stard to spend the rest of his life in prison.

The prosecution just pointed out that under Florida law it was Trayvon Martin that had the right to defend himself in this case.

We'll have the live video from the courtroom for the duration of the trial on Square One.

Judge in Zimmerman trial has denied a defense request for a judgement of acquittal.

Judge says the prosecution has presented sufficient evidence, both direct and circumstantial, to allow the case to go to the jury.

The trial goes on.

WTF?
I wasn't aware of this part of the story. It was a colossal mistake if this spin pans out. The implications of 'confining' a head of state are huge. I wouldn't want to be working in the US Foreign Service or in a US Embassy if this story is true. I cannot believe that we would act so cavalier about international law. I wouldn't be surprised if Bush and Chaney had the huevos to do such a thing, but Obama?

I think this spin needs a little research, Jax. The countries denying airspace were well within the law.., but 'confining' a head of state upon an emergency landing is way off the books.
