Sebastian De La Cruz Unfazed By Racist Comments, Sings National Anthem

10:22 AM, Jun 14, 2013

Brendan Maloney-USA TODAY Sports

Sebastien De La Cruz, the 11-year-old boy who sang the national anthem during Game 3 of the NBA Finals in San Antonio, was the victim of hateful online comments following his first performance.

Despite this, De La Cruz returned to sing the anthem at the start of Game 4. Game 3 was such a blowout for the Spurs that the team asked De La Cruz to return and sing, eager to keep their luck going. The young singer, who was discovered on the TV show America's Got Talent, was happy to come back.

Before the anthem Thursday evening, San Antonio mayor Julian Castro introduced De La Cruz, who was given a huge ovation and loud cheers throughout his performance.

After De La Cruz sang the anthem at the beginning of Game 3, a slew of hateful and racist tweets were directed at the 11-year-old boy, many questioning his race and immigration status. The young singer is Mexican-American.
For his part, De La Cruz seems to be unfazed by the whole thing. From an interview with ABC affiliate KTRK Houston:

"I think the people were talking bad because of what I was wearing and it's not my fault." Sebastien said. "It's what I love and I'm just proud to be a mariachi singer. It's their opinion actually and if they don't like mariachi, that's their problem. I love it."

It's tough to find anything to think about this story except that it's really, really sad that an 11-year-old boy has to even answer these questions. Let's hope he doesn't have to answer any more of them.

That was simply beautiful, Shayla. I had goosebumps.
How could anyone criticize that? I simply don't get it. He sings like an angel and did a fantastic job.
It was beautiful, I've played that so many times today.

They are criticizing him because he is brown. Why is
so many people afraid of the color brown?

Beware of Google balloons. They just may be watching you......or your sheep.

Google launches Internet-beaming balloons

Associated PressBy NICK PERRY AND MARTHA MENDOZA |

CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand (AP)— Wrinkled and skinny at first, the translucent, jellyfish-shaped balloons that Google released this week from a frozen field in the heart of New Zealand's South Island hardened into shiny pumpkins as they rose into the blue winter skies above Lake Tekapo, passing the first big test of a lofty goal to get the entire planet online.

It was the culmination of 18 months' work on what Google calls Project Loon, in recognition of how whacky the idea may sound. Developed in the secretive X lab that came up with a driverless car and web-surfing eyeglasses, the flimsy helium-filled inflatables beam the Internet down to earth as they sail past on the wind.

Still in their experimental stage, the balloons were the first of thousands that Google's leaders eventually hope to launch 20 kilometers (12 miles) into the stratosphere in order to bridge the gaping digital divide between the world's 4.8 billion unwired people and their 2.2 billion plugged-in counterparts.

If successful, the technology might allow countries to leapfrog the expense of laying fiber cable, dramatically increasing Internet usage in places such as Africa and Southeast Asia.

"It's a huge moonshot. A really big goal to go after," said project leader Mike Cassidy. "The power of the Internet is probably one of the most transformative technologies of our time."

The first person to get Google Balloon Internet access this week was Charles Nimmo, a farmer and entrepreneur in the small town of Leeston. He found the experience a little bemusing after he was one of 50 locals who signed up to be a tester for a project that was so secret, no one would explain to them what was happening. Technicians came to the volunteers' homes and attached to the outside walls bright red receivers the size of basketballs and resembling giant Google map pins.

Nimmo got the Internet for about 15 minutes before the balloon transmitting it sailed on past. His first stop on the Web was to check out the weather because he wanted to find out if it was an optimal time for "crutching" his sheep, a term he explained to the technicians refers to removing the wool around sheep's rear ends.....(cont.)

Sarah Palin on U.S. Decision on Syria:'Let Allah Sort It Out'

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin criticized the Obama administration's decision to supply weapons to the rebels in the civil war in Syria today, arguing that the U.S. should "Let Allah sort it out" until there is a stronger leader in the White House.

"Militarily, where is our commander in chief? We're talking now more new interventions. I say until we know what we're doing, until we have a commander and chief who knows what he's doing, well, let these radical Islamic countries who aren't even respecting basic human rights, where both sides are slaughtering each other as they scream over an arbitrary red line,'Allah Akbar,' I say until we have someone who knows what they're doing, I say let Allah sort it out," Palin said at the Faith and Freedom Coalition Conference.

Earlier this week, the White House announced it confirmed that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime has used chemical weapons in the fight against its own people, and the Obama administration will provide more "direct support" to the Syrian opposition since the president's "red line" has been crossed.

Texas governor Rick Perry, one time front runner in the 2012 republican primary, compares himself to the Apostle Peter...and that wasn't the "ooops" moment in today's speech!
----------

Rick Perry Mistakes Lebanon for Libya

Texas Gov. Rick Perry had a bit of an "oops" moment today when he mistakenly referred to the administration's response to the attack on the American consulate in Benghazi as occurring in Lebanon instead of Libya.

"I fear where we've come to in America, where our administration won't make one phone call to save our men and women in a embassy in Lebanon," Perry said at the Faith and Freedom Coalition conference.

Earlier in his speech, Perry referred to his brush with forgetfulness during the 2012 Republican presidential primary and shared with the crowd why he personally relates to Peter the Apostle.

"It was the same Peter whose mouth sometimes ran faster than his brain," Perry said. "Let me tell you I can relate to Peter...
