The sequester: The hammer Republicans hold

There are 61 comments on the The Washington Post story from Oct 14, 2013, titled The sequester: The hammer Republicans hold. In it, The Washington Post reports that:

Liberals constantly lecture, more in theatrical sorrow than in actual anger, about their eagerness to compromise with Republicans, just not with Republicans who are - liberal moderation expresses itself immoderately - hostage-taking terroristic anarchistic jihadist suicide bombers.

A balanced budget?
The last time we anything even resembling
a balanced budget was at the end of Clinton's
presidency.
Bush took care of that in short order and turned it into an
$8 trillion deficit..
Conservatives like to talk about balanced budgets,
but since the end of WWII they have been the
biggest budget busters we've had in Washington.
Exactly. Now the TeaTards want to throw out the baby with the bath water and totally destroy our economy and jobs.

The Grand Old Party is stuck on stupid

Following two presidential election defeats in 2008 and 2012, the Republican party is still making the same mistakes

Stupid is as stupid does and, apparently, the Republican party didn't get Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal's "stupid memo" because it looks dumber by the day. After losing the 2012 presidential election the "GOP establishment" from former Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour to former GOP House Speaker Newt Gingrich and every white man in between acknowledged that the party must make "the tent" more welcoming to minorities and women where the votes increasingly are. So what does the GOP do? It keeps headlining white men behaving badly.

After two presidential shellackings in 2008 and 2012, the Republican party seems to be stuck on stupid and doing business as usual. It's been three months since the Republican National Committee issued its 100-page autopsy report about what went wrong in 2012 and promised to reach out to more non-white voters.

The country is still waiting for the RNC to actually do something. What's evident is the GOP has the same white guys in charge doing and saying the same stupid things that lost them two presidential elections. The Republican party is rotting, but boys will be boys and that seems to be the way everyone in the establishment likes it.

I'm a conservative who saw the Republican Party leave me at the dock years ago. I held my nose and voted for McCain and Romney. No more. After Boehner, Cantor, McConnell and the establishment Republicans capitulated on the debt, deficit, Obamacare, sequester and whatever else Crying John surrenders, the Republicans can go f themselves.

The Left has won primarily because their propaganda arm, the mainstream media, distort the issues and because the increasingly ignorant American people are too preoccupied with the idiocy of social media and the culture of me, me, me, I, I, I. The Republicans lack balls to standup for the principles the party of Reagan stood for. So f it all. I'm of the opinion that the faster the debt and social rot turn the whole American sh*tbox into a house of flames the better. This will occur before the end of Obama's term.

The American people deserve what they voted for and they deserve the financial disaster that is coming. 17 trillion in current debt plus another 83 trillion or so in unfunded liabilities. Someone has to pay for this. It has to be inflated away or the country will have to default once interest rates rise. There are not enough taxpayers in the country even taxed at 100% to pay for it. So laugh all you want liberals because what is coming will make the Rodney King riots seems like Sesame Street.

Any spending restraints made in the current tax more, borrow more and spend it all and then some non-budget the government is mired in is a positive. Maybe some day budget committees will look at actually reducing spending where it does the most good and not concentrate on the 'make it visible and make it hurt' process the DC overlords have in place.

I don't think it's either! Consider the alternative, Bigger debts, Bolstering the already too powerful authority of the state/s. It almost guarantees that the culmination will be that much worse when it finally comes. We're like junkies and the drug is easy govt money!

You got it down straight. There are still large less populated states that have growth potential and states with less taxation. Katrina and the EBT fiasco last weekend also will give you and idea. I know most people do not understand debts and what is owed. But these numbers are staggering and growing fast. Repubs did their share. But a lot of it was accomplished with unkept Dem promises to make cuts after deals were made. The younger you are, the worse it is going to be as taxes will keep rising in many ways including inflation.
