Sessions: Immigration reformers not serving U.S. citizens

There are 21 comments on the Anniston Star story from Sep 5, 2013, titled Sessions: Immigration reformers not serving U.S. citizens. In it, Anniston Star reports that:

There is an unspoken question at the heart of the immigration debate: What is the loyalty a nation owes to its own citizens? Business groups financing the push for comprehensive immigration reform believe they have the right to demand from Congress as many workers as they want from abroad at the wages they prefer.

"In a free-market society, wages for workers are set by supply and demand. If a business is unable to attract the number of workers it needs, it must raise wages. Businesses no more have the right to demand central planners in Washington provide them with workers from around the world at desired wages than they have the right to demand a taxpayer bailout."

"A nation does owe its fundamental loyalty to its own citizens, and that should be the guiding force in crafting a generous but responsible immigration plan. Businesses are free to ask for special treatment. But elected officials have an obligation to say no."

Fully Agree.

When millions of legal Americans are out of work, I'd submit it doesn't serve their interests to continue to import immigrants or let illegal aliens flow into the country taking jobs. Why can't we train or own to do the jobs? Answer is we can if we want to. The military is prime example. You enlist, you get put into a job and you either attend a school to learn the job or you learn that job "on the job".

DHS To Grant Illegal Aliens "Unlawful Presence Waivers"

In its quest to implement stealth amnesty, the Obama Administration is
working behind the scenes to halt the deportation of certain illegal
immigrants by granting them "unlawful presence waivers."

The new measure would apply to illegal aliens who are relatives of American
citizens. Here is how it would work, according to a Department of Homeland
Security (DHS) announcement posted in today's Federal Register, the daily
journal of the U.S. government; the agency will grant "unlawful presence
waivers" to illegal aliens who can prove they have a relative that's a U.S.
citizen.

Currently such aliens must return to their native country and request a
waiver of inadmissibility in an existing overseas immigrant visa process. In
other words, they must enter the U.S. legally as thousands of foreigners do
on a yearly basis. Besides the obvious security issues, changing this would
be like rewarding bad behavior in a child. It doesn't make sense.

But the system often causes U.S. citizens to be separated for extended
periods from their immediate relatives," according to the DHS. The proposed
changes, first announced in January, will significantly reduce the length of
time U.S. citizens are separated from their loved ones while required to
remain outside the United States during the current visa processing system.

The administration also claims that relaxing the rule will also "create
efficiencies for both the U.S. government and most applicants." How exactly
is not listed in the Federal Register announcement, which gives the public
60 days to comment. That's only a formality since the DHS has indicated that
the change is pretty much a done deal

Obama Administration to Help Visa Holders Find Jobs
The Department of Homeland Security announced last week it intends to issue
regulations in the coming months to amend several visa programs in order to
help aliens find jobs in the U.S. or keep the jobs they have.(DHS Website,
Jan. 31, 2012)

One of the major changes the Obama Administration intends to enact is
expanding the scope of qualifying students who may stay and work for an
extended period in the U.S. after graduation. President Obama plans to
implement this policy shift by expanding the Optional Practical Training
(OPT) program, which currently allows foreign students (F-1 visa holders)
who graduate from U.S. colleges and universities in certain fields to remain
in the U.S. to work for up to a year following graduation.(See 8 CFR
214.2(f)(10)(ii)) Last spring, the Administration extended the program an
additional 17 months for students graduating with a STEM degree to allow
them to remain in the country to work for a total of 29 months upon
graduation.(FAIR Legislative Update, May 23, 2011; ICE Press Release, May
12, 2011) The Administration's latest announcement proposes to expand
eligibility for the 29 month OPT program to foreign students currently
completing a non-STEM degree so long as they have previously obtained one.
The Administration also stated that it intends to continue reviewing
additional fields to add to a list of qualifying STEM programs.

Another major policy shift proposed by the Administration is to grant work
authorization to certain spouses of H-1B holders.

Incorrectly touted by the
business lobby as a "high-skilled" visa program, the H-1B program allows
employers to petition for an alien to come to the U.S. to fill a vacancy in
a "specialty occupation" that may not even require a four-year degree. Under
the Administration's proposal, certain spouses of H-1B visa holders would be
allowed to work, taking scarce American jobs, while the H-1B holding spouse
seeks a green card.

I know the illegals that need to be sent out. That would be all of them. If you think these people will enforce anything in this travesty, you're wrong. They have no intention of enforcing anything in this bill. They just wanna get it passed.

I totally agree.. but who the hell know who are the illegals? Eventually if they all come out to apply, then we will know where to find em! Or not?..

Anyway job owner will keep hiring illegals to make em work overtime without paying extra, no maternity, and they'll not pay Ssecuritys..

I don't see a better way to fix this wave of immigrants.. not only from mexico border but also there are students who stay after their visa expires!!

What's goona happen.. god only knows :(

The first step in fixing this problem is to be honest about it. We have plenty of American kids that are only qualified to do the lower paying manual labor jobs that we are currently giving to slave labor illegal aliens. The amnesty backers in congress are actually throwing our most vulnerable citizens under the bus. They are creating a dangerous underclass of young people. So the first thing we should do is implement an everify system for all employment and government assistance. Second we need a visa tracking system that will allow us to prevent these overstays. Third, we have to increase the security on our physical border and fourth, we need to clarify that children born in this country to illegal aliens are not citizens. If we do those four things, after a year we would find we don't have this illegal alien problem any more.
