US opposes lawsuit, attorneys for migrant minors

There are 16 comments on the The New Zealand Herald story from Sep 3, 2014, titled US opposes lawsuit, attorneys for migrant minors. In it, The New Zealand Herald reports that:

Moving forward on a lawsuit demanding legal representation for immigrant minors facing deportation could create a "magnet" effect at the border, attorneys for the federal government said. On Wednesday, a U.S. District judge in Seattle heard arguments from attorneys involving a lawsuit filed in July by a coalition of immigrant rights advocacy groups who say most minors in deportation proceedings lack legal representation, and that violates the Constitution.

If you were remotely familiar with the Constitution or with immigration law in general you would know that these people are following a legal procedure.

Some of us have been quite clear that immigration laws have been changed, but a small group of vocal people has opposed this idea. You win. These are the consequences.

Oh so you are another one who does not distinguish between legal immigrants and illegal immigrants.
It is really refreshing to see people on these boards finally acknowledge that immigration laws do not mean anything to them. Is is all about the brown people.
Good for you. I applaud your honesty.
Where did Legal immigrants come up except in your little head. So you are for the Enforcement of the Immigration Laws? That is DEPORT ALL illegal immigrants. Oh that right, you have a twisted mind. You like wasting UNITED STATES TAXPAYERS MONEY, Because you are a "PARASITE" just like the illegal immigrants.

The topic was the kids who are currently seeking asylum. Whether you like the law or not does not matter. They are following the letter of the law and it has to be dealt with in accordance with the law.

I find it so ironic that the usual clowns who bray mindlessly about obeying immigration law suddenly have decided that they do not like the law and do not recognize the existence of the law.

Can you say "Hypocrisy"?

"Not every kid that applies gets to stay. Not every kid who enters can even apply. You have to be abandoned, abused and neglected. You have to be without your parents. There are minimum requirements, but then there's also the rigorous process of immigration, so not every kid gets to stay," Salmon said.

Tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors have arrived to the United States this year, mainly from Central America. But Salmon says very few can actually qualify for this immigration benefit, unlike Vasquez, who was able to prove he was the victim of abuse, abandonment or neglect.

"If that's the only message you get out through this, please make sure that's clear. If you send your kids here or kids come on their own, you're fleeing something in your country, every case is different and every case is difficult," Salmon said.
She estimates that only about 10% of the estimated 60,000 children who have migrated to the United States in the last year alone are eligible for this immigration benefit, and of those, only a fraction can actually prove their case in court. The rest will be deported, she says.

I hope you support them, maybe you will get lucky and get the Gang Bangers. For me, DEPORT these kids back to their Homeland. These kids were taught what to say when they got here. Where are the so called Parents (SCUM) that abandon them? If they are found DEPORT THEM, too.

Nearly all of the illegal immigrant children who have been apprehended along the U.S.-Mexico border in the last two years have been teenagers.

According to a new Pew Research report, in fiscal year 2013, 91% of illegal immigrant "children" apprehended at the border were teenagers. Of the nearly 60,000 illegal immigrant "children" who were apprehended since October of last year, 84% have been teenagers.

Pew obtained the government figures through a Freedom of Information Act request, and the numbers paint "the first publicly available detailed portrait of the age and home country of child migrants —unaccompanied and accompanied – caught at the U.S.-Mexico border from Oct. 1, 2012, to May 31, 2014."

Pew also noted that while the number of children ages 12 and younger who have been apprehended has increased, "the number of apprehensions of children who are accompanied by a parent or guardian has increased at a far faster clip, nearly tripling (160% increase) in less than a year." According to the data, "in the partial fiscal year 2014 data provided, 22,069 accompanied children were apprehended, up from just 8,479 during all of the previous fiscal year."

There have been nearly 60,000 illegal immigrant children who have crossed the border since October of last year, and federal officials estimate at least 150,000 more will enter the country in the next fiscal year. The number of illegal immigrant children entering the nation from Central America drastically spiked after President Barack Obama enacted his Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program that gave temporary amnesty to certain DREAMers in 2012. The murder rate in Central American nations declined since then.

Texas state Senator Dan Patrick said law enforcement officers have said somewhere between one in five and one in 10 illegal immigrants are actually apprehended, which means there could be nearly 300,000 illegal immigrants who have snuck into the country undetected since October of last year. Patrick also noted that Texas has 100,000 illegal immigrant gang members and there are more illegal immigrants entering the state each week than people who are born in Texas during the same time period.

That was all rather pointless wasn't it? It did not say a thing.

Simply put, it is all legal and you suddenly do not like the immigration laws that you previously defended.

Typing to you is pointless, what it did say maybe 6,000 will get to stay. Again how many are you support?

What's your point? They are following legal procedures that have been in place since World War II. Some will be successful and some will not.

I have long been in favor of revising our screwed up immigration laws, but you have a different opinion. Congratulations. These are the consequences of not reforming the laws. Don't complain to me if you did not understand the complexities.
