This is one in an occasional series on financial what-ifs. At least 12 million illegal immigrants live in the U.S. Most pick crops, wash dishes, build houses, cut lawns and do other jobs for between $6 and $15 ...

7 The rest should be allowed to apply for citizenship after paying a non-refundable application fee, passing a background check and completing an English test. If they can show they contribute in a good way they should be allowed to stay. |

6 I like the idea of kicking out the entire families of immigrants, legal or not who have criminal members. Denmark, who has had a horrendous crime wave caused by Muslim immigrants have considered kicking out the families of these felons. The practice of treating legal, let alone illegal immigrants to a buffet of tax-funded public assistance as soon as they arrive is so stupid it defies description. If there is not paid work available that is attracting immigrants...why the hell are they here? Answer: To keep wages down for the benefit of big business at the taxpayer's expense. Don't believe it when conservatives tell you they are going to control legal/illegal immigration. The wealthy benefit most from keeping wages low, and they pay the smallest proportion of their income in taxes compared to the middle class. This is another example why the liberal support for immigration is so illogical as well. The traditional alliance of the working poor with liberal politics makes no sense, since immigration, both legal and illegal depresses wages. We, the taxpayers, are allowing huge communities of un/underemployed people to exist on assistance combined with extremely low-wage jobs. There are jobs that are going unfilled because people do not live where they are, and they don't pay as much as assistance plus medicaid, especially when you factor in childcare and transportation. A living wage, affordable childcare/medical care and making it far less attractive to be on assistance would go a long way toward making jobs filled by home-grown workers. Relocating people to where jobs are, paying and supporting them adequately and making assistance less of an option would make illegal and immigrant workers unnecessary. |

2 Since illegals have an average of five children, the only way they could make a positive contribution is if they earned over $100,000 a year. Any illegal who makes that much money and has been here over 5 years can get an investor green card anyway, so there is no need for any type of amnesty. |

1 You forgot 'Dogs and cats living together.' |
You are absolutely correct in that assessment. And in the polls quoted: Where were they taken? Who was asked? What were the corresponding percentages of anti-illegals vs pro-ILLEGAL ALIENS that were polled? |

7 Illegals depress wages. The only reason they have been allowed to come is to circumvent labor laws and to further the purposes of big government. This is against the interests of the working American taxpayer. We should do the same as Mexico. Their laws make sense. What is wrong with our politicians? If you migrate to their county, you must speak the national language. There are no special bilingual programs in schools, and no bilingual voting. All government business must be done in the common national language. Foreigners do NOT have a right to vote, no matter how long they live there. Foreigners shall NEVER be permitted to hold any political office. Foreigners cannot be a burden to the taxpayers. No welfare, no food stamps, no health care, nor other government assistance programs. Foreigners may invest in the country, but it must be an amount equal to 40,000 times the daily minimum wage. If foreigners do come and want to buy land, it will be permitted, BUT options will be restricted. You cannot own waterfront property. That is reserved for natural citizens born in their country. Foreigners may -NOT- protest: NO demonstrations, NO waving of foreign flags, NO political organizing, no badmouthing of its national policies. If you do, you will be sent back to your home country. If you come to their country illegally, you will be hunted down and sent to jail. Sound harsh? Insensitive? Inhumane? Those are the immigration laws of MEXICO! |

1 For th people that claaim B.S., do you have any specific disagreements with the article or are you all still in extremist mode, not being to hear ANYTHING that may be a negative about immigration enforcement? I know some of you are fairly, so your reaction are surprising me a little. |
|
Sure, you have the liberal self hating pro-illegals and the greedy neo-slaver conservative pro-illegals. |

2 Hang around I-10 or I-15 where they leave California, you will see these people moving out of CA by the hundreds every day. If the illegals left heck yes they would move back in, assuming they were paid a living wage. |
