At Values Voter Summit, Signs of a Morphing Republican Party

Oct 18, 2013 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: EDGE

There was no surer sign that even the most conservative wings of the Republican Party are aware change is afoot in the United States than at this year's Values Voter Summit.

Those GOPasaurs with national office aspirations know they've lost this issue.

I don't expect them to ever come out in support of marriage equality, but they'll try to keep it out of the headlines as much as possible.

The immorality of gay marriage has not changed. It is a sin and that is one of the eternal truths. The changing times do no change eternal truths, if you are a Christian.

remember the part of the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus laid this all out.

Oh wait, he said just the opposite. And never said a word against His creation. Don't blame Jesus for your hillbilly ignorance and bigotry.

Fortunately this nation isn't a theocracy. Your choice of religion makes no difference in the laws of our nation.

Many of our laws are based on the Ten Commandments and Judeo-Christian teachings "Thou shall not steal, thou shall not kill, etc and this country will never be a theocracy.

You know, it could be a sign that there are such pressing issues going on in this country that "gay rights" were an extremely low priority no matter which side of the issue they might be on. Besides, if the Republican Party is "morphing," it is yet another way they will make themselves irrelevant. The rise of the Tea Party folks continues. Will it happen in time to save the country? Only time will tell.

Irrelevant to civil law, and especially to the GOPasaurs if they want to remain a relevant national party.

Really? None of the Founding Fathers you guys love so much would even be electable today. George Washington was NOT a Christian, but a diest.

John Admas signed the Treaty of Tripoli, which stated "The Government of The United States of America is NOT in any sense founded on the Christian Religion" He also scoffed at the Trinity.

Thomas Jefferson stated that "religious duties are no part of the chief executive's job" and the "first amendment[should be a ] wall of separation of church and state". He also put no belief of the Trinity.

James Madison, who wrote the Constitution, was so not into religion that little is known of his beliefs. He did NOT approve of wearing religion on one's sleeve. He did state that public government prayer proclamations are unconstitutional.

Actually the Teabaggers are destroying the GOPasaurs and taking themselves down with the ship.

We'll be left with the Democratic party, and a bunch of inconsequential minor regional or single issue parties like the Republicans, Teabaggers, Religious Freak party, etc.

I don't agree that our laws are based on The Ten Commandments.

We have no law that specifies which God, if any, we are to worship (Commandment 1); we don't have laws against idolatry (Commandment 2); it is not illegal to take the name of the Lord in vain (Commandment 3); we don't have any laws defining which day is to be considered the Sabbath, Saturday or Sunday, nor do we have any laws designating it as holy (Commandment 4); and we don't have any laws that prohibit children from disrespecting their parents (Commandment 5).

We do have laws proscribing against murder (Commandment 6), although we also have laws that permit it ... including the so-called "Castle laws", the "Stand Your Ground" laws, capital punishment, and a slew of mitigating laws that can be used to justify taking a life. There is no punishment for committing adultery (Commandment 7), although you can be "fined" for it in a divorce case. Yes, we have laws against outright theft (Commandment 8). There is a penalty for committing perjury (Commandment 9), but other forms of lying go unpunished ... even slander and libel and sending the country to war under false pretenses carry no criminal penalties. And finally, we are encouraged to covet (Commandment 10)... our economy is based on it.

One other thought ... if you've studied world religions, you know that "Judeo-Christian" teachings have their equivalents in almost every formal religion. The stories and the names may change, but the concepts they embody are remarkably the same.

We don't have laws based upon the morality of our law abiding citizens. You infer that we should use your Bible to judge others based upon your Christian supposed beliefs, ain't going to happen.

The Tea Party just tried (and FAILED) to ruin the USA's credit rating. If they want to save the country they should move to Africa.

No, they aren't based on the 10 commandments. Just because they are similar, doesn't mean they are based on the 10 commandments.

LOL!! I LOVE this argument of the clueless!! SO amusing.

So, you mean to tell us that without your magical sky friend, we wouldn't be able to figure out all on our own that things like murder and stealing are wrong???

Too funny. You must think all people are as simple-minded as the fundies are.
