Why would the Senate bill go "back to the house"? The House version has already passed. The Senate version hasn't yet been formulated and put to a vote. Again, it's my understanding that if the Senate bill should get passed they will then work to MERGE the two versions to come up with a final bill. If both the House and Senate must vote on the final version it could be killed at that point, right?
Yes, once the Senate passes a healthcare bill, it will go to committee again. Both House and Senate must pass identical legislation in order to put it on the President's desk for signature. He could, of course, veto it, in which case the bill could go back through the House and Senate and would require a 2/3 majority in each in order to override the President's veto and be put into law. But, once the two bills are "merged" in committee, either the House or the Senate could fail to pass the merged bill, and it would then "die" = back to the drawing board.

Right now, there stil seems to be enough difference between what the Senate seeks and the House bill, that it's a bit dicey as to whether or not legislation CAN be passed - the sticking point is the Blue Dog Dems in Congress who are more fiscally conservative and tend to view the public option rather cynically as more of a mandate for government takeover of healthcare. My Representative from this district IS a Blue Dog Dem, and he voted against the House bill.

Yeah Medicare is 44 years old. during the 60s, At the time of its creation, conservatives strongly opposed Medicare, warning that a government-run program would lead to socialism in America:

George H.W. Bush: Described Medicare in 1964 as “socialized medicine.”[1964]
Barry Goldwater:“Having given our pensioners their medical care in kind, why not food baskets, why not public housing accommodations, why not vacation resorts, why not a ration of cigarettes for those who smoke and of beer for those who drink.”[1964]
Bob Dole: In 1996, while running for the Presidency, Dole openly bragged that he was one of 12 House members who voted against creating Medicare in 1965.“I was there, fighting the fight, voting against Medicare ... because we knew it wouldn’t work in 1965.”[1965]
And now, Republicans are of course recycling the same fear-mongering rhetoric today in an effort to defeat the public option
Its as if America has this incredible short attention span, and are in a trance when they watch FOX news.
But the fact that medicare, in spite of rising taxes, is so far in debt that it is financially unsustainable says that maybe those naysayers did have a good point.

The subprime mortgage crisis fueled instability in other sectors of the
economy and has led a crisis in the banking industry, housing industry, auto
industry - and is resulting in the layoffs of millions of Americans. A
subprime mortgage is one granted to individuals with a bad credit history or
no credit history. They were given no-money-down, low interest, or
interest-only loans.

Democrats effectively blamed President Bush for the economic crisis and this
propelled Obama into office as President of the United States for the next
four years.

Is President Bush to blame? No. It was Democrat leadership going back to
the Carter Administration that created this economic disaster.

The fact is that the roots of this economic crisis go back to the Clinton
and Carter Administrations , the radical group ACORN, and Rep. Barney Frank
(D-MA) and Senator Christopher Dodd (D-CT).

Here are the facts:
a.. Under President Jimmy Carter, the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) was
passed. It required federal financial institutions to encourage banks to
give home loans to persons with little credit and low income. Economist
Russell Roberts said that the CRA played a major role in creating the
sub-prime mortgage crisis in the U.S.

b.. Under Bill Clinton, the CRA was expanded and Clinton set targets for
low-income home ownership at the Department of Housing and Urban Development
and at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Banks were forced by the federal
government to provide bad loans to unqualified people.

c.. Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) is Chairman of the Financial Services
Committee in the House of Representatives. In 2003, he said of Fannie Mae
and Freddie Mac: "These two entities - Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac - are not
facing any kind of financial crisis. The more people exaggerate these
problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will
see in terms of affordable housing." In the late 1980s and early 90s, Frank
was engaged in a sexual relationship with Herb Moses, who was Fannie Mae's
assistant director of product initiatives! Bill O'Reilly exposed Frank's
involvement in the mortgage crisis: YouTube - O 'Reilly - Barney Frank Had
Affair with Fannie Mae Exec. Frank looked the other way, while our economy
was being destroyed by federal policies created in Clinton and Carter
Administrations.(Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae help fund the homosexual
agenda.

d.. In 2008, Freddie gave $20,000 to a Parents and Friends of Lesbians and
Gays (PFLAG) event; Fannie Mae gave nearly $19,000 to the same event.
Freddie has donated $125,000 and Fannie donated $80,000 to homosexual groups
since 2005.)

How Ethics Disappear

by Paul Greenberg

Gosh, what a surprise: A committee of their fellow senators has decided that
Chris Dodd and Kent Conrad did nothing unethical when they took out loans
from Countrywide Financial on the kind of favorable terms not available to
us mere mortals without their financial or political standing -- or a
personal connection to the head of Countrywide.

The very Select Committee on Ethics did recognize that the whole deal looked
bad, and gave its colleagues a gentle pat on the wrist for creating "the
appearance that you were receiving preferential treatment based on your
status as a senator." But in the end one hand washed the other, if not very
well.

The senators on the committee have a point: This VIP program -- called
Friends of Angelo after Angelo Mozilo, the head of Countrywide at the
time -- wasn't restricted to U.S. senators; it seems to have been open to a
wide, bipartisan range of politicians with pull as well as anybody Angelo
Mozilo took a liking to. To name a select few:

A former secretary of housing and urban development (Alphonso Jackson), a
former secretary of health and human services and later university president
(Donna Shalala), a former assistant secretary of state and still diplomat
(Richard Holbrooke), an adviser to Barack Obama's presidential campaign
(James Johnson) and so prominently on.

How else could these preferential loans appear but improper? Could it be
because they were improper, ethically if not legally?

The surest way to lose the very basic and maybe first definition of
ethics -- obligations beyond the law -- is to treat ethics as only a branch
of the law rather than a separate realm above it. Which is why the phrase,
"ethics law" is something of an oxymoron. Just because something is legal
doesn't make it right.

When a member of the U.S. Senate is told he's getting a favor, like a point
off his interest rate, that ought to be enough to raise a warning flag --
and keep him from accepting the deal.

Countrywide cast a wide net for its favoritism, but just how wide may never
be known. It seems the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform
Committee (which may prove another oxymoron because it doesn't seem all that
interested in either oversight or reform) is refusing to issue a subpoena
for Countrywide's records of just who got these VIP loans and why.

The chairman of the committee, it turns out, is one Edolphus Towns, a
Democratic congressman from New York, who himself received a couple of loans
from Countrywide. What a coincidence.

His father's friends were his backers for political influence and even with all this help, he was a failure. Do you know why his father kicked his ass one night? No you don't! Do you know who loaned him the money to get his 1st oil company, Arbusto off the ground? Try the Saudi Royal Family.

So how many members of the House read the bill?

I honestly suspect NONE.

Every one who voted for a bill that did not read it should be removed from office for negligence.

Republican, Democrat, Independent - does not matter.

If you do not READ and UNDERSTAND a bill, you MUST NOT VOTE FOR IT.

To do otherwise is CRIMINAL and should be punishable by loss of employment.

we could all send an email to the reps that voted for the healthcare bill and tell them they are fired , do you think it would work ? I wish it would .

the simple fact is that washington has forgotten that they work for us but maybe a simple email telling them they are fired might open a few ears.

Britain to invest in proton therapy after boy's Jacksonville treatment
Alex Barnes, now 5, is cancer-free after his treatment last fall at the UF
Proton Therapy Institute, his mom says

Convinced that it was his best shot at survival, Alex Barnes' parents rushed
the 4-year-old last fall from their home in England to Jacksonville for six
weeks of proton therapy.

The results were two-fold: Alex's aggressive brain cancer all but vanished,
and impressed British health officials have begun taking steps to establish
the country's first proton therapy center.

England's National Health Service last week announced that it is accepting
bids from hospitals to host proton therapy services. In a statement to the
media, the head of the agency credited the initiative to the lobbying
efforts of Alex's mother, Rosalie.

"Her campaign to bring proton therapy services to England so that other
children and adults can benefit from having the treatment here impressed me
greatly," said Health Minister Ann Keen, who had a one-on-one meeting with
Rosalie last April.

Britain has a proton beam, but it is only strong enough to treat eye cancer.
Health officials say the new device likely won't receive funding until 2011
at the earliest.
