Bush Administration OK’d Biggest Theft of Taxpayer Money in History

Millions of ordinary, law-abiding Iraqis had hoped their nation’s oil wealth would be used to rebuild their country after President Bush ordered the attack on their country. Instead it was used to line the pockets of tribal leaders, insurgents, militias, crooked U.S. contractors, some U.S. soldiers and an unspecified number of powerful elites in the Iraqi government.

At present, the sheer scale of the missing billions is unclear. But consider this: Imagine for a moment that you wanted to transport 360 tons of $100 bills from the Federal Reserve Bank in New York to Baghdad. First you would need it assembled into what are called “bricks,” each one containing $100,000. Then 20 of those “bricks,” amounting to $2 million, would be sealed in a wooden box. That wooden box would be loaded onto pallets. Eventually the whole 360 tons of bills totaling $16 billion would need to be placed on three massive, U.S. military C-130 transport planes for the trip to Baghdad.

That is what the White House signed off on in 2003 when Paul Bremer was running the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA). It was a shadow government established by Washington after the fall of Saddam Hussein. Bremer, a former ambassador to Iraq, regarded as a security guru, was like a pro-consul of ancient Roman times but a lot less efficient.

On top of his blatent INCOMPETENCE.

Poor teabagger.

Obama should at least provide military arms to the Taliban. It would be un-progressive to supply Syrian rebels and not the Taliban freedom fighters. Obviously they would need to promise to not use the weapons on us.

You're complaining about $16B? Chump change compared to the costs of Obamacare.

But, if you're really concerned about fining it, I suggest you start with ex-senator Jon Corzine.

Will people stop ripping Bush? He was the one with brass balls that launched a U.S. and U.K. led joint forces into Afghanistan and Iraq. In the process of doing so saved many lives for future generations in those two countries, 40+ years from now people in that region will be very happy for stabilizing their governments.

Some how, it has evolved into a monstrous conspiracy.

Piles of cash seized in Iraq
Foreign currency worth nearly $700b has been found in a Baghdad neighbourhood, the US military say.

Troops found $100m and 90m euros in 31 containers, US Central Command said. After that, they located a deep vault over 8800 square feet which held strict cash in forms of major money blocks totalling a monstrous sum.

The money has been flown out of the country to a “secure location” for counting purposes and will eventually be returned to Iraq to help rebuild the country, the US said.

Last week, US troops found more than $650m in the same area of Baghdad.

Liberal bloggers told the opposite story.....

The money was Sadddam's.......

But the fact is billions of dollars have disappeared without trace."

Oliver: "Of their money. Billions of dollars of their money, yeah I understand. I'm saying what difference does it make?"

Mr Bremer, whose disbanding of the Iraqi armed forces and de-Ba'athification programme have been blamed as contributing to the present chaos, told the committee: "I acknowledge that I made mistakes and that with the benefit of hindsight, I would have made some decisions differently. Our top priority was to get the economy moving again. The first step was to get money into the hands of the Iraqi people as quickly as possible."

Of course, it's all a conspiracy.

Must be like the world's largest and most expensive embassy too, right in Bagdad.

After much delay the United States opened its new $700 million embassy in Iraq on Monday, inaugurating the largest — and most expensive — embassy ever built.

The 104-acre compound, bigger than the Vatican and about the size of 80 football fields, boasts 21 buildings, a commissary, cinema, retail and shopping areas, restaurants, schools, a fire station, power and water treatment plants, as well as telecommunications and wastewater treatment facilities.

The compound is six times larger than the United Nations compound in New York, and two-thirds the size of the National Mall in Washington.

It has space for 1,000 employees with six apartment blocks and is 10 times larger than any other U.S. embassy.

Poor teabagger.

I didn't say conspiracy, loon. I said it was Saddams money (proven by British AND honest American new sources), it was distributed to Iraqi and American contractors without proper accounting practices.....fault of a high ranking military man. But at least we figured out where the money went for it and the embassy! LMAO

We still don't know where billions went for shovel ready, cash for clunkers, green energy bankruptcies (although we know some execs got rich).,...
