Immigration reform is necessary and long overdue. Continuing to prevent people who just want to work hard, fails to recognize the contributions that immigrants have made, and will continue to make to our society. There was a time when the Irish were the beginning of the end of society as we know it, then the Italians, and so on. As it turned out, the United States helped save the world from world domination and became a superpower in less than 200 years. Immigration reform could also help us equalize the current disparity we have in numbers for Social Security, i.e., more Baby Boomers retiring than workers following after them. Thus, with more people contributing to Social Security, we could find a way to make it solvent. The contributions that hardworking people make, of whatever origin, is what inspired me to make a shirt, "Keep Hardworking Immigrants, Deport Freeloading Americans." www.sharptongue.net .

Why can't the illegals go thru the legal process for coming here? Because they don't meet our standards. Illegals are the dregs of mexico - the lazy, stupid, unskilled, criminal, and insane. Mexico doesn't want them so why should we.?

Green wrote yesterday. He notes that "whites are far more pessimistic about their prospects and their children's prospects--and many mistakenly believe that illegal immigrants are the primary culprit." He adds that "widespread misconceptions about the economic effects of immigration" stem "from a lack of information that's largely due to both the Democratic and Republican parties' unwillingness to pursue immigration reform, after years of failed attempts."

If we want to be fair and compassionate then we need to move forward with reform and stop blocking progress with demands for amnesty. It is the illegal aliens and their supporters who have blocked immigration reform and given honest, legal immigrants a bad reputation. We will take your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore, but we need to send back the 10 to 20 criminals that have invaded looking for a free ride.

The problem is not immigrants it is illegal aliens. Those who lump honest immigrants in with illegal aliens are responsible the the mistaken belief immigrants are responsible for the grim future our children face. Even more responsibility rests with the politicians on both sides and their lust for power and indifferance to the needs and wants of the American people.

. I have never seen a more blatent display of ignorance. And if the people that complain there's no work were willing to get off their butts and work from dawn till dusk in the sun and rain and whatever else nature feels like throwing at them there wouldn't be a demand for illegal immigrants. Not to mention I know many illegals some even have college educations years of millitary experience and everyone of them that I know do jobs that most american people wouldn't even consider doing

The census puts the Latinos mostly with the white group it's either white or black for them they do have an other though so getting 67% of them getting welfare is a lie

They don't bother, because the majority of them don't want to be Americans, because they would have to become personally responsible and be forced to make the same sacrifices that legal taxpaying Americans make. They like the life they live, fleecing Americans, sending untaxed remittances to fund a relative's payment to a coyote so that he/she can also sneak in and live off a couple of American-born kids. We have made it too easy for these people, and the gravy train needs to cease. If an amnesty goes through, it will be interesting to see how many refuse to come forward.
