Jan 22, 2013 Full story: Detroit News 221

More than 6 in 10 Americans now favor allowing illegal immigrants to eventually become U.S. citizens, a major increase in support driven by a turnaround in Republicans' opinions after the 2012 elections.

Well, one things for sure, a ninny like you certainly doesn't speak for Puerto Ricans or hispanics, for that matter.

Do you understand the concept of polling?

The idea is to take a statistical sample and apply it to a large population.

And yeah, it is scientific, if done properly.

I'm not against immigrants.

I was merely explaining the concept of polling to the other poster.

If it's scientifically done, then it does.... Who's gonna listen to a dummy like you? We're talking about highly sophisticated, high qualified and highly educated individuals taking the polls. How do you compare, you bum?

<quoted text>there is absolutely nothing scientific about choosing the people you call for a survey and even if every race is represented evenly in a poll, there's still no possible way in hell that 1,004 people speak for well over 300,000,000 americans, even congressmen laugh at these stupid polls.
You clearly have never taken a course on statistics..

I'm not going to give you a college level statistics course here, but suffice it to say that relatively small samples (numbers of data points) CAN be used to accurately predict the behavior of larger populations- that can apply to voting, shopping habits, modeling groundwater data, or any of thousands of other applications used daily in business, politics and science.

That's not to say that the polling agency can't screw it up, but if they do it correctly, they will usually be pretty close (within the confidence level).

BTW, when congressmen laugh at polls, it's usually bluster and political gamesmanship- almost none of them has more than the vaguest notion of the mathematics used in statistical polling. Frankly, I doubt if more than a handful of our congress critters has ever taken a college level statistics course (most are lawyers, and lawyers don't learn a lot of math)- and even for those who did, it was decades ago.

Bottom line is he lost. Who cares on what account.... Republicans and right wing media pundits were insulting those groups necessary for a win. You can't go around insulting people and expect them to vote for you.

Romney was in denial of his hispanic (Mexican) past. That in itself sealed the deal for hispanics to shy away. His 47% remark was like a slam dunk for the Democrats. Those who had once produced, but where now retired or incapacitated, weren't going to pull the lever for him under no circumstances.

Who cares about immigration? It's was in the back burner then as it is now. You're grasping for straws. Suck it up, he lost and your boys will lose again in 2016, if they don't change their tune.

YAWN.....

Flag desecration is protected free speech.

The United States Supreme Court in Texas v. Johnson, 491 U.S. 397 (1989), and reaffirmed in U.S. v. Eichman, 496 U.S. 310 (1990), has ruled that due to the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, it is unconstitutional for a government (whether federal, state, or municipality) to prohibit the desecration of a flag, due to its status as "symbolic speech."

Using a stolen social security number is not illegal.

Supreme Court says using stolen SSN not identity theft

The case--in which a Colorado man, Felix Montes-Rodriguez, used another's Social Security Number to obtain a car loan and employment--was found by the Colorado Supreme Court not to meet the criteria for "criminal impersonation."
