Grassley Links Boston Terror Attack to Immigration Reform

Apr 19, 2013 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Taegan Goddard's Political Wire

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley warned that Congress must take into account the events in Boston this week when working on comprehensive immigration reform to ensure "those who would do us harm do not receive benefits under the immigration laws," BuzzFeed reports.

<quoted text>Go to WGN news and see just how bad things are in Chicago. The guns are still in the hands of the thugs and criminals, while the average citizen has no way to protect themselves from these cretins. Factor in that a vast number of policemen there are about to retire, and it will take about ten months before there are more boots on the ground to serve and protect. The citizens are not being protected by taking their gun rights away, as long as criminals have ways to get theirs.

In general, an individual who wants to purchase or possess a firearm in Illinois will need a Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card. This gun license is administered by the state Firearms Services Bureau; you can get an application by visiting the Illinois State Police website.

During the FOID application process, the applicant's identification and background information are checked. Individuals with prohibiting factors such as prior felony convictions, certain misdemeanors, drug addictions, and those who have recently been patients in mental hospitals may not be eligible for a license.

If you are able to receive a FOID card, you should know that this is not a license to buy whatever firearm you want. Instead, there are several restrictions that limit what types of guns you can and cannot buy. For example, these types of weapons and ammunition are specifically banned:
•Machine guns
•Rifles with barrels of less than 16 inches
•Shotguns with barrels of less than 18 inches
•Any weapon made from a rifle or shotgun and as modified has an overall length of less than 26 inches
•Explosive or metal-piercing bullets
•Silencers

There is typically a 72-hour waiting period for delivery of a handgun. So you normally can't just show up and take a gun home immediately.

This application allows you to print the FOID application only. You must then manually complete the application, sign, attach a photo and submit the $10.00 processing fee and mail to the address above.

$10.00?

That's it?

If you can't afford $10.00, you are probably going to use the weapon to obtain the $10.00, which would make you a crimminal.

I am talking about Chicago, not IL in general. WGN News has nothing to do with Faux News. No guns are allowed to be sold in Chicago to honest, law-abiding citizens. However, criminals have no trouble getting their hands on them. Crime is through the roof. A fact you refuse to believe. Corrupt Chicago politicans are not protecting their citizens by disarming them. Crime has not dissipated one bit by the stiff gun laws Chicago enacted. FACT! Watch WGN News and see for yourself...it's a cesspool and you might get enlightened.

I lived there, and it is not the city I left behind when I moved away. It has always been known for its corrupt politicians, but the depths to which it has sunk supercede all past administrations. I thought factcat Daley's was a farce, but Rahm's actually makes his years as mayor look good. Downtown is a scryy place to be now with the freaking violent flash mobs that slide around. I was there during the crime surge last summer, and it wasn't pretty. I agree, however culpible Bush was for much of our woes, it's time to put the blame for the current woes where they belong, on BO's inept shoulders. Schmoozing with Hollywood fools instead of working with Congress does not strengthen our country.

Was there 12 years ago, it was a cesspool then.

I didn't know Chicago had it's own set of rules.

Well then, I guess I was breaking the law.

However:

April 17, 2013

In December, a panel of the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Illinois' ban on carrying concealed weapons in public was unconstitutional. "A right to bear arms thus implies a right to carry a loaded gun outside the home," Judge Richard Posner wrote in the majority opinion.

"A gun is a potential danger to more people if carried in public than just kept in the home," he wrote. "But the other side of this coin is that knowing that many law-abiding citizens are walking the streets armed may make criminals timid."

Posner directed Illinois lawmakers to fashion a law that lifts the complete ban on carrying guns in public. The judge didn't tell them how to do that, but he told them when they had to get it done. He set a deadline: 180 days.

Commie?

Everyone knows that Tea Party revolutionaries fear and hate socialism about as much as the Antichrist. Which is funny, because the Tea Party movement’s dirty little secret is that it owes its existence to the grandaddy of all Antichrists: the godless empire of the USSR.

What few realize is that the secretive oil billionaires of the Koch family, the main supporters of the right-wing groups that orchestrated the Tea Party movement, would not have the means to bankroll their favorite causes had it not been for the pile of money the family made working for the Bolsheviks in the late 1920s and early 1930s, building refineries, training Communist engineers and laying down the foundation of Soviet oil infrastructure.

Here is a better historical fact, one that the Kochs don’t like to repeat in public: the family’s initial wealth was not created by the harsh, creative forces of unfettered capitalism, but by the grace of the centrally-planned economy of the Soviet Union. This deserves repeating: The Koch family, America’s biggest pushers of the free-market Tea Party revolution, would not be the billionaires they are today were it not for the whim of one of Stalin’s comrades.

The Soviet oil planners were delighted with Koch’s refineries, which “operated commendably, and would in the future be the type preferred by the heads of the Soviet Union’s petroleum industry when purchasing new cracking equipment.” The Communists were so impressed they kept giving Winkler-Koch business and regularly sent Soviet engineers to train in Wichita. It was a sign of growing mutual trust.

March 12, 2013

A Chicago man found with a loaded gun in his car says felony weapons charges against him should be dropped because of a court ruling that tossed out Illinois' concealed carry ban.

Deafalla Haddad was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after he was pulled over for speeding in November in Schiller Park and informed the officer he was carrying a loaded gun in a waistband holster.

His attorney, Matt Fakhoury, said the case should be dismissed because the law Haddad broke was found to be unconstitutional and because his actions would be legal in any other state.

"He did everything as a lawful citizen," Fakhoury said. "The courts ruled that the law, as it stands now, is unconstitutional because it does not allow for law-abiding citizens to (own and carry) a weapon.... There's not a scratch on his record."

Illinois was the last state with a concealed weapons ban when a federal appeals court tossed out the law in December and gave legislators six months to revise it to allow people to carry guns legally. The Illinois attorney general could decide to appeal the ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court.

You didn’t hear this on Fox News or the Drudge Report, but on October 10 Venezuela seized and nationalized a massive fertilizer plant part-owned by Koch Industries. The media silence is a bit puzzling. You’d think that the seizure of property belonging to America’s second-largest private company, owned by one of the most powerful families in the country and the bankrollers of today’s libertarian/Tea Party revolution—the billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch–would be considered newsworthy. But no, even though their Venezuela plant was nationalized a whole three months ago, other than a handful of short business-wire dispatches, this has yet to make the news. Even Koch Industries has been suspiciously silent on the matter.

One reason why the Kochs could be keeping the news under wraps is that the nationalization of the fertilizer plant may appear to be bad news for Charles and David Koch, but here’s the big surprise: the Kochs made hundreds of millions on every end of this deal…and even more surprising, bond markets cheered the nationalization. In other words, the free markets championed by the Kochs gave a big thumbs-down to Kochs’ negative influence on the value of the business, while at the same time, the free-market Kochs earned huge windfalls doing business with socialists. No wonder this story hasn’t made the rounds.

What were true-believer libertarians like the Kochs doing running a fertilizer plant in Venezuela with two state-run companies, anyway? After all, Charles Koch’s own Cato Institute brain trust has been writing for decades that government-owned enterprises are less efficient and productive than private companies. The answer is simple: they were there for the subsidies.
