Study: Deportation Doesn't Deter Border Crossings

Mar 29, 2013 Full story: CBS Local 9

Arrests and deportation from the United States largely isn't effective in keeping Mexican nationals from wanting to re-enter the country, particularly those who consider the United States their home, a study released Thursday by the University of Arizona found.

They keep returning because we have made it very convenient for them to be here!!

Attrition! INTERNAL enforcement would be most effective in ending all of this!

We need to turn a blind eye to the poor family pleadings, they have wrung us out on this one, and quite frankly, they do it to manipulate us. They leave family behind and recreate a new one!

they keep coming back do to the failure to issue out that huge prison sentence for coming back after being deported.

give the max a few times, everyone over the age of 18 and fully checking those who say they are under 18 do to they lie to stay out of prison.

want to let them see thier buddies doing 10 or 20 years for coming back it will slow them down.

Cut off the magnets that entices them to come here. Everybody knows a stray dog will hang around your house as long as you keep feeding it.

Crack down on employers who hire illegals, completely cut off any access to government assistance programs, repeal the 14th amendment so they can't access the system through birthright citizenship for the children they have here and enforce the law to the fullest extent. If they are caught here illegally for any reason, they are deported.

If we'd stop financing them and feeding them...they'd stop coming. They'd no longer have a reason to want to come here.

We could end illegal immigration and solve the problem if our elected officials had the political will to do it.

Having children while living here illegally has also helped them to dig in, those kids become pawns and shields and ways for illegals to pull at people's heartstrings.

so, if somebody keeps breaking the law, we should just accept it and give up on enforcing it?

apparently, this is what the person(s) who came up with this study are saying.

"Slack said the debate should include ways to keep families together or reunite them, although he acknowledged that might not be popular politically."

I think the families should be kept together and reunite them. Deport the whole family!!!

You can't teach old dog's new tricks. They've never obeyed our laws, because they have zero respect for this Country or it's values. If you're one of the lowest community's on the Totem Pole to start out with, you don't suddenly change your stripes. They're thieves, liars, low life scum and being here is like Christmas everyday of their lives compared to the crap houses they came from. But we cannot afford them anymore, nor empathize, nor feel anything but resentment for this. And only in America, they get treated special, so they keep coming, and never will change until we enforce our laws and criminalize them for repeat offenses and never never relent.

We can talk about this until the cows come home, and we all know that our reps simply don't have the testicular fortitude to actually do what you suggest. It is because of their ambivalence coupled with our own complacency to this problem that we are in the place we are today. We are all to blame, but it is never too late to rectify the problem if we have the right reps in place. We keep working on that, but it seems the reps keep getting less and less interested in We the People.
